With IDF now in full swing, Intel has revealed a bit more about the order of which Nehalem processors will become available come launch time and well into the new year.
Initially, we will see high-end desktop variants (Core i7) released along with server products code-named Nehalem-EP. From there, it's been mentioned that Intel are planning a second server oriented derivative designed specifically for the expandable server market, dubbed Nehalem-EX. The second half of 2009 will also see the birth of desktop Havendale and Lynnfield processors along with mobile variants codenamed Auburndale and Clarksfield.
Initial Nehalem processors will all be quad-core models with eight threads thanks to HyperThreading technology making a return. TGDaily also make mention of Intel's first 6-core Xeon processor (code-named Dunnington), the X7460 which is expected to make its appearance in servers beginning just next month.
According to Intel, it's already broken performance records in an 8-socket 48-core IBM System x3950 M2 server which became the first platform to have broken the 1 million tpmC barrier in the TPC-C benchmark.
