Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is giving Xbox players a weapon skin nobody else can actually see, and it isn't hiding behind an unlock challenge or a paywall. It's tied to a pre-order bonus that every platform gets, just not equally.
Activision has announced the Inner Circuit M4 Assault Rifle Blueprint as a reward for anyone who digitally pre-orders Modern Warfare 4, regardless of platform. On PC, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2, the blueprint comes in a translucent black, mil-spec finish.
On Xbox, the same weapon glows translucent green, a tribute to the original Xbox console's 25th anniversary, complete with Xbox branding on the magazine well. It's the same sort of colour as the translucent limited-edition Xbox Series X that's coming out.

A console-exclusive skin on its own isn't anything new, but the fact that the green Xbox version is invisible to everyone who isn't playing on Xbox is unusual. This means that if an Xbox player runs into someone on PC or PlayStation in a cross-play match, that player's killcam will show the standard black version instead.
"Designed as a tribute to 25 years of Xbox, the Inner Circuit Blueprint takes cues from classic translucent Xbox hardware," Infinity Ward explained on the official Call of Duty blog. "Its transparent green finish exposes the weapon's internal systems, turning the technology beneath the surface into part of the visual identity."

Activision clarified in a dedicated blog post that, aside from its appearance, the weapon blueprint is the same across platforms. Both versions share the same attachments and performance, including an 11.5" Shortline Barrel for mobility, an FTAC Dominion Muzzle for recoil control, an FSS Fireline Grip, an SZ Prima-4 Dot Optic, and a ZLR ASP50 Stock.

Interestingly, the Xbox gun also shows that Activision can technically give players different visual versions of the same weapon skin. That opens the door to a toggle that lets players choose between the loud, outlandish weapon and character skins Call of Duty is known for and a more grounded look. Activision hasn't given players that option yet, though.
