Lenovo has not finished asking how much screen it can fit into a laptop bag. Leaked images obtained by Windows Latest reveal a ThinkBook concept internally called Project Swan, a business laptop with a display that physically expands horizontally from both sides of the lid using motorized rails.
The design stores sections of a flexible OLED panel inside housings along the edges of the lid. When activated, dual motors drive the rails outward, expanding the screen into a wider format. From the front, the laptop looks like a standard ThinkBook, complete with a centered webcam, ThinkBook branding on the palm rest, and two USB-C ports on the left edge.
The rear is where the changes become more obvious, with structural cutouts for the sliding mechanism and a shorter, more centrally positioned hinge designed to stay clear of the expanding channels on either side.

The target audience appears to be enterprise users. Horizontal expansion addresses a specific problem for professionals who rely on multi-window workflows while traveling, whether that means spreadsheets, code editors, or documents side by side. External displays require cables, desk space, and extra weight in the bag, while a laptop with an expandable display could provide the additional screen real estate without any of that.
Project Swan is the latest in a long line of Lenovo flexible-display experiments. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable expands vertically from 14 inches to 16.7 inches and launched at $3,499. The Legion Pro Rollable takes the horizontal approach for gaming, expanding a 16-inch OLED to 21.5 or 24 inches, although Lenovo has no retail plans for that model. The ThinkPad Rollable XD expands vertically from 13.3 to 16 inches.

Lenovo has not confirmed specifications, pricing, or a release date. The device may appear at IFA next month, although that remains unconfirmed. A patent covering the design was filed in August 2024 and granted in the U.S. in March 2026, suggesting the concept has been in development for some time.
