GTA 6 is digital-only at launch, but it might not stay that way forever. New reports say that Rockstar could release a proper physical version of GTA 6 sometime in December. This version would of course come with a disc in the box, not just a download code, and may even have extras like a map and manual.

The report comes from Polish games site PPE, who was told by famed leaker Graczdari that a physical disc option for GTA 6 would come in time for the holidays. Rockstar Games' support team also seemingly confirmed this to be true, as per a back-and-forth chat between reader BeDR3D_PL and Rockstar support.

"Please note that current pre-orders are for the digital update only. A physical copy will be available for purchase in the coming months," Rockstar support purportedly told BeDR3D_PL.

If this ends up being true, it brings to mind an interesting scenario: How many people will immediately double dip to buy a physical version of GTA 6?

Despite all the noise made in the enthusiast gaming sector about GTA 6's digital-only release, polls show that users are not only willing to buy such a game, but they're more likely to buy the most expensive version of the game; Insider Gaming has found that most people are purchasing the $100 Ultimate Edition of GTA 6.

Given this, it may be less likely that consumers will also double dip and re-buy a physical version of GTA 6...however, any kind of extra commemorative bonus may entice hardcore fans to buy again.

This is a typical strategy for Rockstar Games, this double-dip effect, however, the studio usually waits to re-release its games onto new console generations and PC. A big reason why GTA V has sold so well is that Rockstar re-released the game on three console generations, making users buy the game again each time.

Taking this digital-now, physical-later approach with GTA 6 would give Rockstar a potential window to capture double sales for some users.

Rockstar Games has not yet publicly said anything about a disc version of GTA 6 being offered in December.
