Xbox has delayed its big Fable reboot outside of 2026, and the game will now release on PS5, Xbox, and PC in February 2027 instead.

With this year being quite crowded, and perhaps wanting to avoid the gigantic looming shadow of GTA 6's impending November release, Xbox has made the decision to push back the new Fable RPG a few months. Originally announced in 2020, Microsoft has settled on a finalized February 2027 window for the game on all platforms.
"In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we're moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves," Xbox wrote on Twitter.
Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty also discussed why the delay was made in a recent Xbox podcast:
"Playground is doing really well on Fable. The game is in great shape, the team feels really good good, we're excited about where the game is. We want to make sure that the game has a window all to its own, so we're going to move it from this fall to February. We just want it to have its own moment to shine."
Matt also confirms that more Fable footage will be shown during the upcoming Xbox event on Saturday, June 7, 2026 at 1pm EST.
Fable promises major innovations over the base game, including what looks to be more dynamic, action-driven combat (designed by a Witcher dev, no less) alongside one of the most inter-linked game systems in recent memory.
The new Fable makes a big departure from older games, though, and won't change player appearances based on their actions. Being evil in the game won't make you grow sinister devil horns like in the older Fable games. Fans weren't happy about this change, but the new morality system ties heavily into dialogue and how the game treats the player, and how they are able to interact with its various systems.
No exact release date for Fable has been locked in, but we should get a date at the showcase in June.
