Metro 2039 will be a haunting and dark singleplayer experience, more harrowing than previous games

Fans are in for a shocking sequel with Metro 2039 as a newly leaked plot synopsis paints a grisly post-apocalyptic picture.

Metro games are known for their grueling depictions of suffering against the backdrop of slim hope and survival, and it's these themes that give the games their signature, nail-biting tension. The next Metro game is being set up as a truly wrenching experience that could push the series to new heights.

While 4A Games is set to reveal Metro 2039 during the Xbox First Look showcase on April 16, early details about the game have surfaced via a recent Indonesian database leak.

The news was reinforced by Dmitry Glukhovsky, who says gamers are in for something haunting with Metro 2019:

"This Metro game will be darker than anything you've seen before," Metro book series author Dmitry Glukhovsky said on Twitter.

The synopsis also confirms that the game will be singleplayer, squashing the potential that the multiplayer-driven Metro game announced in 2020 would somehow be included in the sequel.
