Control franchise sales hit 5 million, Remedy gives update on Control 2 sequel

Remedy's Control franchise has broken 5 million sales across two console generations in the last five years, the Finnish developer has announced.

Control was our favorite game of 2019 and served as a creative melding of The X-Files, Twin Peaks, and Max Payne. Remedy is working on a sequel, but not much info has been revealed yet, and the game hasn't been formally showcased--Control 2 is still very much a work in progress.

In a recent Q2'25 earnings update, Remedy shares that Control has hit 5 million sales on all platforms. That's no small feat for a new IP published by a smaller house like 505 Games. Remedy has since acquired full publishing and IP rights to the Control franchise, and plans to self-publish the sequel.

"Control's lifetime sales exceeded 5 million copies during the second quarter. Control's publishing, distribution and marketing rights were transferred to Remedy in the first quarter of 2025.

"We've now been able to drive Control's sales activities fully by ourselves and have seen positive development through our sales activities."

As for Control 2, that project is now in full production alongside the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake.

"Control 2 development is on track towards meeting its next milestones. The focus is now on the gameplay, environments, and missions. Work continues on developing the game into a strong commercial offering."

Good news: Alan Wake 2 is now profitable and Remedy is making royalties from the Epic-funded game:

"Alan Wake 2 continued to sell steadily and accrue royalties. The rest of the Alan Wake franchise continued to sell in line with our expectations and generate small and steady revenue streams."
