TL;DR: Samsung will launch its first internationally available tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy G Fold, alongside a new XR headset in October 2025. These flagship devices aim to expand Samsung's foldable lineup and Galaxy ecosystem, competing directly with Apple by emphasizing advanced AI features and innovative form factors.

Samsung's upcoming tri-fold smartphone is no surprise, but now the company has confirmed it will be unveiling its new tri-fold smartphone, as well as its new XR headset in October 2025.

We've had a flood of rumors regarding the tri-fold handset from Samsung which will reportedly be called the Galaxy G Fold, which will join the company's successful foldable family of smartphones that has recently seen the launch of the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 smartphones.

Tri-fold smartphones aren't completely new, with Chinese smartphone maker Huawei already on the market with its own tri-fold Mate XT smartphone, but Samsung will be the first to have an internationally-available tri-fold smartphone, versus Huawei's tri-fold Mate XT which is only available in China.

Samsung is aiming for an October 2025 release for its new tri-fold smartphone and XR headset, both of which will be competing directly against Apple with. Apple has its Vision Pro on the market, an expensive and not-so-well selling XR headset, with a foldable iPhone expected to hit the market in 2026. Samsung will be two steps ahead, or is that two folds ahead, with a tri-fold smartphone before Apple even has a single foldable product on the market.

Samsung Electronics said in its Q2 2025 earnings results: "In H2 2025, the MX Business plans to continue a flagship-first approach for smartphone sales focusing on foldables and the Galaxy S25 series - while emphasizing the AI functionality of the Galaxy A series - to increase market share. It will also reinforce the AI capabilities of tablets and wearables and expand the Galaxy ecosystem with the launch of products with new form-factors, including extended reality (XR) and TriFold devices, and contribute to maintaining solid profitability despite market uncertainties and rising bill of materials (BOM) costs".
