Families trying to enjoy the new Minecraft movie are having to deal with delinquent fans who are deciding to trash the cinema by throwing food and drink around over an internet meme.
Cinemas are having to warn movie fans about attending the newly released "A Minecraft Movie" over several instances of fans participating in a social media trend and a seemingly weird internet meme where viewers scream "Chicken Jockey" at a specific scene in the movie. If it were just the screaming, it would be annoying, but as part of the meme, viewers are throwing popcorn, drinks, and other items around the cinema when the "Chicken Jockey" appears on screen. In one instance that was captured on TikTok, the police were called as a result of the outburst.
For those who don't know what is causing this, the scene triggering these viewers to trash the cinema actually appears in the trailer of the movie. The features Jack Black's Steve and Jason Momao's character Garett Garrison in a boxing ring where a baby zombie can be seen riding a chicken. This is a rare occurrence in the actual Minecraft game. Unfortunately, due to the power of social media, younger audiences around the world are now filming themselves trashing the cinema when this scene appears.
Videos surfacing on social media show viewers even throwing drinks at the image projected on the screen, cinema managers reprimanding viewers by saying they had to refund several families who were upset about the experience, and, in one video, a cinema employee being body-slammed.
Unfortunately, it's not totally clear what started this trend to completely trash a cinema when a line from a movie was said, but it's clearly gotten to the point where it's become a worldwide phenomenon that's taken hold of the youth. Despite this ugly trend, A Minecraft Movie has already made more than $300 million at the global box office, claiming the crown for the biggest opening weekend for a video game adaptation, taking the top spot from the recent The Super Mario Bros Movie.
Personally, I find this trend to be completely disrespectful to the cinema and moviegoers in general, who are more than likely sitting with family or close friends just trying to enjoy a movie. The youth participating in this trend are simply doing it for views online at the expense of everyone around them and the cinema employees who have to clean up a now filthy cinema. This is ridiculous, selfish behavior. Do better.
