HAPPY APRIL FOOLS!
Back in 2021, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to the stage and announced that the company was changing its name to Meta to bring all its various apps and technologies under a single name and bring the "metaverse to life." If you're unfamiliar, the metaverse is a fancy word for virtual reality - specifically apps like VR Chat, where you put on your goggles and chat with real people represented by crudely animated avatars.

Fast-forward to 2025, and Meta isn't so much focused on bringing the "metaverse to life" as it is on investing in AI, developing powerful large-language models, and integrating AI features and tools into its products. Like some of the other big names in tech that are going all-in on AI, Meta is building its new AI foundation using powerful NVIDIA GPU hardware.
This is all a roundabout way of saying that it's not unusual for one of the biggest companies in the world to rebrand as part of its vision or focus. With that, reports are surfacing that NVIDIA is planning on rebranding, ever so slightly, by changing its name to NVID AI, with the formal announcement expected soon.
According to a new report from Tech Daily, citing sources within NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's inner circle, the decision was born from several executives wanting 'AI' to become synonymous with NVIDIA's brand without altering its legacy and brand awareness. It's unclear who came up with the idea, but swapping the 'IA' at the end of NVIDIA with 'AI' was apparently met with applause during a recent high-level meeting.
Not only that but according to one insider, Jensen Huang was so impressed that he mused that he wished he had a time machine like the DeLorean from Back to the Future so he could travel back in time to tell his younger self to name the company NVID AI. He then jokingly talked about using an NVIDIA Grace Blackwell-powered AI supercomputer to create a time machine from a DeLorean. "If you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?" Jensen Huang said, quoting his favorite movie.
It's unknown exactly when NVIDIA will announce its name change to NVID AI, but with the new logo already leaked - expect to learn more soon.
