The Bottom Line

When it comes to microSDXC, nothing on the current market beats the Lexar Professional UHS II solutions. With capacity options up to 128GB and performance exceeding 200 MB/s, these cards are built to work and are backed by a leader in the industry.

With the aerial "drone" industry now being commercialized, users of these rigs will often need storage solutions that can record footage at incredibly high resolutions. With 4K being the driver behind technology in today's market, Lexar has added to their Professional lineup a new microSDXC solution that is capable of 1800x or 270 MB/s.

The Professional lineup from Lexar has always showcased the latest that technology has to offer. Aimed at the 4K recording market, this latest solution will be available in several capacity options including 32, 64 and 128GB; the solution we are testing is the 64Gb model. This card carries the UHS-II specification allowing 270 MB/s read performance, which is just under the theoretical maximum for UHS-II (312 MB/s). Also, Lexar includes several extra including a USB 3.0 UHS-II card reader along with its Image Rescue 5 software.

Compatibility for the Lexar Professional 64GB microSDXC memory card allows for use in any microSDXC device, but for maximum performance, it is recommended to use UHS-II devices. MSRP for the 64GB model is listed at $136.99 while the 128GB model retails for $273.99, and both carry a lifetime warranty.

Removing the card from the packaging, we find everything laid out in a plastic retainer as seen above.

The card reader itself is quite small and carries the same color scheme as the microSDXC card.

In addition to the USB adapter, Lexar has packaged the microSDXC memory card with a full-size adapter.

To start off testing, we used the USB 3.0 adapter included with the card. As you can see above, this solution was able to reach a read score of 506 and a write score of 221 in Anvils.

Moving on to our charts, it's quite apparent how well the Lexar performed. At 222 MB/s read and 206 MB/s write, our first look at UHS-II in the microSDXC form factor has proved impressive.

Taking into account the performance of this Lexar memory card, it was hard to believe this solution didn't take over the top spot, but the Samsung Pro+ managed to hold onto a 3% lead.

In closing, I'm quite impressed with the small but mighty Lexar Professional UHS-II. It's great to see another vendor is releasing their UHS-II solution as it has been nearly two years since the last card came through. The build quality and overall package you get with the Lexar is top notch. Not many vendors offer one adapter let alone two, and they even went as far as to match the color scheme.

Performance, as you can see above, was quite good. I was able to reach 222 MB/s read and 206 MB/s write in sequential, and 496 write IOPS topped by 3294 read IOPS. While looking at price/performance, we still see the Samsung Pro+ holding on to the top spot, but it truly wouldn't take much of a price adjustment from Lexar to take over top honors.

The bottom line is quite simple. If you are planning on or are currently recording high-resolution 4K or above video via land, air or sea, the Lexar Professional microSDXC UHS-II solutions are for you.
