Stan Lee played a pivotal role in the direction of Marvel's Avengers

TechRadar was lucky enough to sit down with Crystal Dynamics, the developers of the upcoming Marvel's Avengers game. Throughout the interview with Scot Amos, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics, the topic of Stan Lee was brought up and how he influenced the developers in their story telling. Amos says that before Lee passed, they were lucky enough to be able to ask the father of Marvel for some direction tips.

According to Amos, "Stan was a complicated guy. He just loved his characters. We actually asked him, what does he want to do and what is his characterization. We had questions through fans and members of even Marvel, saying, 'Well, what can we ask him? What is his relationship [with us]? What do we have to do?'" Amos continued to explain that Lee's advice was not necessarily story direction, but more so protection for the fans.

Man stopped by TSA before boarding flight with weird gun-shaped object

Jak Connor | Business, Financial & Legal | Nov 5, 2019 4:10 AM CST

If you have ever been on a flight of any kind, you know there are rigorous security checks to ensure passengers aren't carrying anything suspicious, let alone something illegal. Gun-shaped objects (not surprisingly) fall into those categories.

Man stopped by TSA before boarding flight with weird gun-shaped object

Recently, the Transportation Security Administration agents at the Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey came across something in someone's carry-on luggage that was quite strange. The object was gun-shaped and appeared to be a revolver, but before things got really serious, the TSA agents realized it was just a toilet paper roller.

The toilet paper roller looked remarkably similar to a revolver, and as you would imagine, bringing anything on a plane that even resembles a gun is not allowed at all. The TSA agents gave the passenger three options: give it to someone who wasn't boarding the plane, check it into the cargo luggage, or let them confiscate it. The passenger didn't have any attachment to the item and decided to let the TSA agents keep it.

The Witcher TV show has 1 season greenlit, but 7 are mapped out

Jak Connor | TV, Movies & Home Theatre | Nov 5, 2019 3:06 AM CST

One of the most highly anticipated Netflix TV shows to release is The Witcher, and while we haven't even got the first season yet the showrunner already has another seven seasons planned out.

The Witcher TV show has 1 season greenlit, but 7 are mapped out

Lauren S. Hissrich who spoke to SFX Magazine talked about future seasons of the Witcher TV show, saying "We don't have a second season yet--God willing we will--but right now it's just about, 'How do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?'" She went on to say that the worst mistake that can be made is throwing all of their production energy into the first season and not thinking about how the characters would progress if there were future seasons.

She continued, "The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to." Hissrich also said that the first season will feature a lot of death, and that some of the characters introduced to the audience in season one won't make it to future seasons if there are any.

Delivery robots are being taught to map out their route in real-time

Jak Connor | Science, Space, Health & Robotics | Nov 5, 2019 2:07 AM CST

Eventually the human race will have autonomous robots take over all of the tasks we deem mundane. The first of these tasks will most likely be deliveries.

Delivery robots are being taught to map out their route in real-time

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) who have partnered with Ford have devised an answer to the question "how do we program autonomous robots to be able to map neighborhoods when they have constantly changing environments?" Engineers at MIT have developed the answer, which is a navigation method that allows robots to map their environment in real-time.

This new method uses machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms instead of specific GPS coordinates. In the above video you can see this technology in action, and how MIT robots have been taught to add different pieces of information together to form a completed path. Eventually, this technology will be that good that companies like Google and Amazon will want to license the navigation systems, that's if they don't build their own of course.

Jak Connor | Gaming | Nov 5, 2019 1:03 AM CST

If you are a Hideo Kojima fan you would understand that his titles are much like movies, or at least their cut scenes are. But what if the director moved into fully fledged movie production?

Netflix adds 'skip Trump joke' button for Seth Meyer comedy special

Anthony Garreffa | Business, Financial & Legal | Nov 4, 2019 11:26 PM CST

Netflix is going to be deploying a special 'skip Trump joke' button to Seth Meyers' upcoming stand-up comedy special for Netflix, Lobby Baby. If you don't want to hear the barrage of Trump jokes from Meyers, you can easily press a button.

Netflix adds 'skip Trump joke' button for Seth Meyer comedy special

A button like this isn't strange to Netflix as they have a very similar if not identical button when a TV show theme is playing, giving streamers the option to skip the intro -- something that comes in handy when you're binge watching a new show on Netflix. This time, it's all for Trump.

First, it sounds strange to implement a 'skip Trump joke' button in a stand-up comedy special on Netflix that will have jokes about President Trump... but the button is a joke in itself. Meyers explained to CNN: "It dawned on me that because it was on Netflix, there would be this opportunity to put in technology that would allow people to skip it. It was a way to build in the response to anyone who would say, 'Oh, let me guess there's going to be jokes about the president.'".

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has barely been out a week and now data mining from the PC version has revealed some upcoming goodies that we could expect to drop in the coming months.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare data mining finds 38 new maps, 23 modes

Thanks to a new post on Reddit we know that there are 23 new possible game modes coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and 38 new maps. Yes, you read that first part right -- there are 23 new game modes coming to COD: Modern Warfare. 38 new maps is absolutely huge as well, but 23 new game modes? Wow.

There are a bunch of different modes and maps that sound interesting, with Infinity Ward working on a slew of new 6v6 and 10v10 maps as well as a new map for the huge (at least for the Call of Duty franchise) Ground War game mode. I've got a massive list of the new maps and game modes below.

ASUS ZenFone 6 beats Samsung to the Android 10 upgrade punch

Oh, you thought Samsung would be the first with Google's latest Android 10 operating system on its Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy Note 10, and Galaxy Note 10+ smartphones -- oh and we can't forget the Galaxy Fold, but nope -- ASUS is the first with its ZenFone 6.

ASUS ZenFone 6 beats Samsung to the Android 10 upgrade punch

ASUS has updated its interesting ZenFone 6 smartphone with Android 10 in its latest October 2019 security update for the ZenFone 6 smartphone. Android 10 will give the ASUS ZenFone 6 gesture controls like Google's newly-released Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones which come with Android 10 out of the box.

There's new themes and my personal favorite -- a system-wide dark mode, something I love on my Pixel 3 XL with Android 10, and miss dearly on my Samsung Galaxy S10+ 5G smartphone. The big interesting note here is that ASUS and not Samsung, were first with Android 10 on their smartphone.

Microsoft's new Edge logo looks like a Tide pod, please don't eat it

Anthony Garreffa | Software & Apps | Nov 4, 2019 8:29 PM CST

Microsoft has just made the most radical change to its web browser logo since the introduction of Internet Explorer, with the new Edge browser receiving a new logo.

Microsoft's new Edge logo looks like a Tide pod, please don't eat it

The original Edge logo that launched with the browser in 2015 had parts of the original Internet Explorer infused into it, but the new one looks like nothing like it -- it resembles a Tide pod if anything. The new logo was discovered inside of a surfing mini game that was hidden inside of the latest Canary versions of Edge.

Edge's slick new logo looks like a wave... get it? You're surfing the web. Just don't try and eat the new Edge logo, okay? Microsoft's brand new Edge browser will launch on January 15, 2020 with the new logo. You can try out the new Edge browser in release candidate form here.

Netflix considers switching from Intel to AMD EPYC in its datacenters

Anthony Garreffa | CPU, APU & Chipsets | Nov 4, 2019 8:01 PM CST

AMD has been making all the right moves lately with its EPYC line of processors, but now a huge name might be changing over from Intel Xeon CPUs to AMD EPYC CPUs in its datacenters: Netflix.

Netflix considers switching from Intel to AMD EPYC in its datacenters

Netflix has servers in place that can hit 100Gbps of bandwidth, but as you can expect from a streaming giant like Netflix it is always looking forward. The next goal from there is a 200Gbps server, so Netflix has the option of going to a dual-socket Intel Xeon set up or a single-socket AMD EPYC solution.

If Netflix wants to hit 200Gbps of bandwidth it's going to need some beefy I/O, with the server infrastructure Netflix has deployed right now being a mix of Intel Xeon CPUs in both Broadwell and Skylake/Cascade Lake families. Broadwell-based Xeons have around 60GB/sec of memory bandwidth and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes (with 32GB/sec I/O bandwidth).
