If you have been following Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or just the Smash Bros. series in general, you no doubt know about the community outcry for the addition of Waluigi. Turns out Nintendo knows about the want for Waluigi, they just haven't done anything about it yet.
Waluigi coming to Smash Bros. has gotten to the point where it has become its own living meme. Jokes, puns and numerous other things have been created around Luigi's arch-rival addition and yet we still have no sign of him potentially joining the roster. This perplexes me, large portions of the community are clearly crying out for him to be added yet Nintendo hasn't budged at all, why?
According to Nintendo Canada's Andrew Collins, "I think it's great when something builds naturally because, you know, as a marketer, when you have something that goes viral like that it's brilliant. You can't buy that. You can't create it. And when the fans do something like that, it's amazing. But it's so good to see from a passionate side of things. And let's face it, it's funny. I've seen some of the photos. I've seen some of the artwork that people have created, and it's fantastic to see their passion."
From what Collins has said, it appears Nintendo are using the fans' cries for Waluigi to be added as free hype for their game, because "You can't buy that. You can't create it". Nintendo knows that we want Waluigi, but instead have decided to keep the charade going on as it is a completely free marketing campaign for them. The fans started it, we organize it and ultimately we dictate when it finishes. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have 5 more fighters added as DLC's, it will be very interesting it see if Waluigi is going to be included.
