NVIDIA has released a new security update for older GeForce graphics cards, bringing driver version 582.78 to GPUs based on the Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures.
The driver is intended for systems that no longer receive NVIDIA's regular Game Ready drivers. As a security-only update, it doesn't include game optimizations, new features, or performance improvements.
The supported hardware spans a wide range of older desktop GPUs. Maxwell coverage includes the GTX 750, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 950, GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980, and GTX 980 Ti, while Pascal coverage runs from the GTX 1050 through the GTX 1080 Ti. The list also includes the GT 1010, GT 1030, TITAN Xp, and TITAN V, alongside numerous older notebook GPUs.

The release is part of NVIDIA's long-term security support program for these aging architectures. NVIDIA ended regular Game Ready support for Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta in October 2025, after which the GPUs transitioned to quarterly security updates through October 2028. This is another scheduled security release, not a return to full driver support.
NVIDIA's September 2026 security bulletin covers 114 vulnerabilities across its GPU display driver and vGPU software. However, that figure covers the bulletin as a whole and does not mean every vulnerability affects every Maxwell, Pascal, or Volta GeForce GPU.

Each vulnerability has separate affected-product and fixed-driver information. CVE-2026-47600, for example, lists GeForce drivers before 582.78 as affected specifically on Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPUs.
The vulnerability exists within the driver's kernel-mode layer and could potentially lead to code execution, privilege escalation, denial of service, information disclosure, and data tampering.

For owners still running these older GeForce cards, 582.78 is less of an upgrade and more of a security maintenance release. NVIDIA plans to keep releasing security patches for Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta through October 2028, leaving the hardware with roughly two more years of security coverage despite no longer receiving Game Ready features or optimizations.
