Nintendo to end Switch 1 sales in Europe starting mid-February 2027 1

Nearly 10 years after its original launch, Nintendo is making moves to phase out the original Switch console. The company announced that it will no longer sell new Switch 1 hardware in Europe. The news was delivered on a FAQ section on its support page.

The news comes as Nintendo readies a new array of Switch 2 consoles and accessories for the European market--a potentially expensive revision, especially during the current hardware climate. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are all being squeezed by the chip shortages, forcing them to raise hardware prices so that the books even out against extreme production cost increases. While it's likely that Nintendo always planned to start phasing out the Switch 1 sometime soon, the ongoing chip crisis may have accelerated these plans.
