GTA 6 listed as 'offline play only' on console PlayStation Store, 'offline play enabled' on other Sony portals

Rockstar Games has already said GTA 6 is a singleplayer experience, and language on the PS5's PS Store indicates that GTA Online will always be separate.

TL;DR: Sony's PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as offline-only on PS5, reflecting Rockstar's confirmation that GTA 6 is a singleplayer game separate from GTA Online. This suggests GTA Online will remain a distinct product, possibly sold separately, while Rockstar explores new business models like the $100 Ultimate Edition and GTA+ subscription.

Sony's PlayStation Store listing for GTA 6 indicates that GTA Online will remain separate from the premium-priced story mode.

Rockstar has already confirmed that GTA 6 is a singleplayer experience, and it's clear that the game will launch without GTA Online packed in. The language that Sony is using around the game could mean GTA 6 and GTA Online could stay separated and sold as two different products. Technically, Rockstar already did this in 2022 when it opted to sell GTA V and GTA Online separately for reduced prices, and it looks like this model will be used for this cycle too.

While checking over the PlayStation Store, I noticed that GTA 6 is listed as "offline play only" when viewing the game on the PS5's version of the PS Store. That terminology is not used anywhere else in Sony's product materials for GTA 6. Elsewhere, including the browser PS Store and the PlayStation.com splash page, the game is listed as "offline play enabled."

This could very well just be a coincidence and the two phrases are meant to be used interchangeably.

It might also mean that Rockstar plans to keep the online portion of the game separate from GTA 6 in order to sell another additional product.

The publisher's exact strategy remains unclear, however Rockstar is willing to make key changes to its business model--the $100 Ultimate Edition is proof of that--and we could even see more content added to the story mode portion of GTA 6 over time.

The GTA+ subscription is also a wild card here, and it could be used for more than just GTA Online extras this time. Rockstar having separated key parts of story mode behind the Ultimate Edition could be the beginning of more cosmetic content coming to the story mode over time, helping pad GTA+'s value and maybe even justify a price hike from $7.99 to maybe $9.99 per month.

Rockstar has yet to discuss anything regarding GTA Online's future. GTA 6 has only been confirmed as a singleplayer game for now, and it could be months before the new GTA Online is revealed. When it is, Rockstar might charge everyone a base fee to access the game, or maybe even tie it to the GTA+ subscription.

We also do have to wonder why Rockstar would be giving everyone a free month of GTA+ with every GTA 6 pre-order, especially if it has no online mode at launch. Is it just because auto-renewal is turned on by default?
