Guerrilla Games' Horizon franchise has surpassed 38 million sales worldwide across PS4, PS5, and PC, Sony has revealed.

Sony is suing Tencent for copyright infringement, alleging that Tencent's new game Light of Motiram infringes on Sony's Horizon franchise. In that lawsuit, Sony gives an update on total sales for the Horizon series, which currently sit at 38 million.
To date, there have been four Horizon games: two mainline games, Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, both of which had expansions; one VR game called Call of the Mountain for the PSVR2; and the newer Lego Horizon Adventures spin-off. All of these games have released on PC, and Horizon Adventures launched on Nintendo Switch.
The last-known figure for Horizon was 32.7 million as of May 2023, and the new update represents a hefty increase of 5.3 million game sales across a roughly two-year span, also potentially indicating that LEGO Horizon Adventures sold well across multiple platforms.

"The Horizon Franchise is immensely successful and widely distributed. The Horizon Franchise has sold over 38 million copies globally," Sony writes in the 48-page lawsuit complaint.
"Aloy['s character trademark] has achieved widespread recognition due to its extensive promotion and recognition: over 38 million copies of Horizon games have been sold worldwide to date, and the franchise has garnered extensive critical acclaim and numerous prestigious industry awards for narrative, visual design, and audio/visual achievement."
It's possible that the mainline Horizon franchise could one day cross over to Xbox or even Nintendo Switch. Sony is currently hiring a position for multi-platform business relations, and the candidate will oversee releases across different systems like Xbox, Switch, and PC. There's only one Sony Interactive Entertainment game that fits this bill--MLB The Show is the only SIE game to release on all of these platforms.
Here's how the Horizon franchise compares to other video game franchises with similar sales:
