TL;DR: WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is facing some serious flak over PC performance issues, and Steam reviews have sunk to 'mostly negative' with an avalanche of complaints. Developer Leenzee Games and publisher 505 Games have issued a statement apologizing and promising a patch to improve matters is coming soon, while providing some basic optimization tips.

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is now out and if you look at Steam, there's an avalanche of complaints about performance issues with this Souls-like outing - which the developer has just issued an apology about.

Wccftech directed our attention to the 'brief statement' which is from developer Leenzee Games and publisher 505 Games, and runs as follows:

"First of all, we want to extend our most sincere thanks to everyone who supports and follows our game. It means a lot to us.

"We have received reports regarding issues such as the game's optimization not meeting expectations, errors in distributing pre-order rewards, and some abnormal pricing. These problems should never have occurred, and we deeply regret the inconvenience and negative experience some players are currently facing."

A separate section on performance issues follows, in which the developer says it's confident the game will perform well if the PC meets the recommended spec, but that it's still working on optimization. We're also told that a patch will be issued ASAP.

A FAQ is then linked for those who are finding frame rates choppy, although the real meat of the advice is in this post - a lot of these tips are pretty generic, mind (close background apps, update Windows to the latest version, and so forth).

Fallen frame rates

As mentioned at the outset, a glance at the Steam reviews for WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers reveals a whole lot of upset PC gamers who are plagued with choppy frame rates.

There are over 10,000 reviews at the time of writing, and the game's rating has dipped to 'mostly negative' which isn't a good look.

Most of the flak being fired is due to sluggish frame rates, or "extremely awful" performance as one review puts it. There are more positive reviews from some Steam denizens, but even they describe some level of stuttering, and of course many gamers are blaming WUCHANG being an Unreal Engine 5 title for these FPS woes.

Going by some comments - take them with some caution, naturally - there's also a fair bit of blame being pinned on DLSS for those running NVIDIA GPUs. As one reviewer puts it: "DLSS makes the game look and feel awful."

That same person notes that FSR is fine and works well, but naturally your mileage might vary.

Whatever the case, there's clearly work still to be done with WUCHANG, as never mind fallen feathers, there are a lot of ruffled feathers around at the moment.
