AMD made its high-end Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series "Shimada Peak" CPUs official today at Computex 2025, maxing out at a holy-crap 96 cores and 192 threads of Zen 5 processing power, rocking along at up to 5.4GHz clock speeds.

AMD's new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series CPUs are based on the Zen 5 architecture and fabbed on TSMC's new 4nm process node, with up to 96 cores and 192 threads, up to 384MB of L3 cache, and clock speeds of up to 5.4GHz. We've also got enhanced AVX-512 instructions with full 512b data path.
There's up to 128 lanes of PCIe 5.0 available, so if you want to throw in some pro-level workstation GPUs and a bunch of Gen5 AICs to push up to 113GB/sec (if you're using Phison's new beast E28 Gen5 SSDs for example, more about that here). AMD also has up to 8-channel DDR5-6400 ECC memory support with its new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series "Shimada Peak" CPUs.

AMD's new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series CPUs are split into the non-PRO and PRO SKUs, with the PRO series variants aimed at higher-end workstations, while these new non-PRO chips are for workstations, DIY systems, and HEDT systems.

AMD has both its new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 WX-series and its new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series CPUs, so there are options for everyone. On the consumer and HEDT side of things, we've got 3 SKUs to choose from with the Ryzen Threadripper 9980X, 9970X, and 9960X.
The 9980X has 64 cores and 128 threads with a base clock of 3.2GHz and boost of up to 5.4GHz, with 256MB of L3 cache, the 9970X with 32 cores and 64 threads with a base clock of 4.0GHz and boost of up to 5.4GHz, with 128MB of L3 cache, and finally the 9960X with 24 cores and 48 threads with a base clock of 4.2GHz, boost of up to 5.4GHz, and 128MB of L3 cache.
All of the Ryzen Threadripper 9000 non-PRO series slot into the sTR5 socket and have a 350W TDP.

On the PRO side of things, the new Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-series CPUs have 6 variants, the 9995WX, 9985WX, 9975WX, 9965WX, 9955WX, and finally, the 9945WX. These chips feature 96C/192T, 64C/128T, 32C/64T, 24C/48T, 16C/32T, and 12C/24T, respectively.
The flagship Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX has 96 cores, 192 threads boosting at up to 5.4GHz (base clock of 2.5GHz) with a huge 384MB of L3 cache.

Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics Group at AMD, said: "These announcements underscore our commitment to continue delivering industry-leading innovation across our product portfolio. The Radeon RX 9060 XT and Radeon AI PRO R9700 bring the performance and AI capabilities of RDNA 4 to workstations and gamers all around the world, while our new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 Series sets the new standard for high-end desktops and professional workstations. Together, these solutions represent our vision for empowering creators, gamers, and professionals with the performance and efficiency to push boundaries and drive creativity".
