TL;DR: FromSoftware's upcoming games, Elden Ring: Nightreign and Duskbloods, emphasize multiplayer. Despite this focus, director Hidetaka Miyazaki assures that singleplayer-oriented games remain a priority.

Although FromSoftware's next two games emphasize multiplayer, Hidetaka Miyazaki wants you to know that the team hasn't given up on singleplayer games.

Elden Ring: Nightreign and the newly announced Switch 2 exclusive Duskbloods might be different in scope--Nightreign is a 3-player PVE-only game and Duskbloods is PvPvE for maximum chaos--but they share something big in common: Multiplayer. Online modes give devs opportunities to sell content, microtransactions, and even platform-level subscriptions like Switch Online and PlayStation Plus/Xbox Game Pass, all of which are needed to play these games.

FromSoftware isn't about to go all-in on live service games, though. In a recent Nintendo Creator's Voice article, director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirms that more singleplayer-focused games are on the way.

Question: Did you always have some desire to make a PvPvE type game?

Miyazaki: "Yes, I've always found the PvPvE structure very interesting. It allows for a broad range of game-design ideas, while also letting us leverage our experience of designing challenging enemy encounters.

"As a side note, please allow me to address one thing. As previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn't mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward.

"The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring was also announced, and we still intend to actively develop single player focused games such as this that embrace our more traditional style."

Elden Ring, a singleplayer-driven (but not singleplayer exclusive) game, has become the single biggest hit in FromSoftware history with 28.6 million units shipped as of September 2024. Sales could skyrocket once the game hits Switch 2 this year.

Elden Ring is coming to the Switch 2 in 2025, whereas Duskbloods is due out in 2026.

Developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2; 'THE DUSKBLOODS' is a PvPvE title with online multiplayer at its core, where up to 8 players vie for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes.

Play as the "Bloodsworn"; a group that has transcended human strength thanks to their special blood, and throw yourself into a violent fray for "First Blood" as the twilight of humanity approaches.

Release is currently set for 2026 and we hope you look forward to it.
