Our Verdict

Patriot goes for gold... I mean, yellow, with its latest FUEL+ charger. For those after a mobile battery that looks a little, well, different... this could be the one for you.

Introduction & Specifications

Introduction, Specifications & Availability

One of the first mobile batteries I reviewed was all the way back in July 2013, which was the Patriot FUEL+ 9000mAh battery, but in their beautiful red-and-white color scheme. Patriot is back, splashing yellow onto the FUEL+ for a very, very unique look.

I have, and still use a slew of Patriot FUEL+ chargers, but this new yellow one has me intrigued. Nothing has changed on the inside, but on the outside, we have a fresh, bright, vibrant color which changes the entire look of the FUEL+ battery.

When it comes to specifications, Patriot isn't a slouch. We have two outputs: 2.5A and 1A. The 2.5A will get your smartphone or tablet charged up as quickly as it can, while the 1A port is good for charging a second device while the 2.5A port is taken, or charging up tablets.

In the box, we have a micro USB to USB cable to charge up your FUEL+, the FUEL+ itself, and an owner's manual. Patriot provides a two-year warranty with their FUEL+ line, when it comes to input, we have 5V/2.5A maximum, as well as 5V/1A and 5V/2.5A for output. This means you can charge up the FUEL+ really quick, which is actually a big deal compared to some of the competition.

The Patriot FUEL+ Rechargeable Battery in yellow is on Amazon right now for $54.47 at the time of writing. The list price is $64.99, so you're saving around $10 right now buying the FUEL+ in yellow.

The retail packaging is nice and simple, showing off that beautiful yellow color both on the battery, and the packaging. The front even teases you that the FUEL+ inside is "pre-charged & ready to go" which is a nice touch.

On the right side of the FUEL+, we have the power button and four LEDs that show you the charge left in the device. First light is 25%, second is 50%, third is 75% and the final LED you guessed it - 100%.

And again, with the lights off, showing off the beautiful green LED inside of the yellow FUEL+ charger.

Using the Patriot FUEL+ - Yellow is my New Favorite Color

While using the Patriot FUEL+, I had two of my Sony devices on hand: the Xperia Z2 smartphone, and Xperia Z2 tablet. Both devices have pretty large batteries, but last all day. What I like to do with my devices is use them down to around 20-30%, and then charge them up to full again: something I did on the FUEL+.

I was able to get my Xperia Z2 smartphone right down to 15%, and charge it back up to full just on three times with the FUEL+. The FUEL+ has 9000mAh of battery inside, while my Xperia Z2 has a 3000mAh battery inside it, perfect for around, but not quite three full charges. The LEDs on the side are quite handy, with a quick press you know where you stand with how much battery you have left inside of the FUEL+.

The yellow color really stands out, with a few people actually asking me about the "yellow thing on my table" when I was out at dinner, or waiting in the airport for my next flight out.

What's Hot, What's Not & Final Thoughts

For those who want to sum up the entire review in a few points, the What's Hot and What's Not part of my review will help you. Skip right to this bit if you want a quick read, or if you want to find out what I found to be the most notable parts of the FUEL+, we're going to jump into that right now.

What's Hot

Yellow is the New Every Other Color: When Patriot first reached out to me about testing another FUEL+, I wasn't that excited about the yellow color. But after taking it out and using it, it well and truly grew on me. The yellow style with green LEDs really stands out, even in a dark environment.

Quality Through and Through: I've always been happy with Patriot FUEL+ chargers, so giving it a yellow paint job doesn't change much, as the quality is still there.

Did I Mention It's Yellow?!: Yeah, it's yellow, and that's awesome.

What's Not

There's nothing that I can complain about here, folks!

Final Thoughts

A yellow charger? I didn't think I'd see the day, and even less so from Patriot, but here we are. I didn't like the color at times, but in certain light, wow does it look great. It gets attention from the public and friends, that's for sure.

If you were a fan of the FUEL series and were after something just a little different, I think you'll really enjoy what Patriot has done here. It's not any different in any other way from the company's other FUEL+ line of chargers, except for the super-funky color.
