HD Tune is a Hard Disk utility which has the following functions:

- Benchmark: measures the performance
- Info: shows detailed information
- Health: checks the health status by using SMART
- Error Scan: scans the surface for errors
- Temperature display

HD Tune Pro gives us accurate read, write and access time results and for the last couple of years has been gaining popularity amongst reviewers. It is now considered a must have application for storage device testing.

Read Tests

I would never suggest running a storage server in RAID 0 since there are just too many things that can happen that will lead to a loss of data. The RAID 5 numbers for the FiT 500E look pretty good considering you are pushing five drives worth of data through a single eSATA connection. The FiT 500 is faster than the Promise SmartStor DS4600 in read speeds.

Write Tests

The write speeds of the FiT 500E are significantly faster than the DS4600. Here we see the RAID 0 on the FiT 500E running just a little faster than RAID 5.
