A jailbroken PS5 is quickly turning into an unlikely retro gaming machine, with developers now getting original Xbox games running on Sony's console while separate projects target Xbox 360 and Windows games. We have been closely covering the recent PS5 modding scene.
The most advanced effort so far is XPSemu, a native PS5 port of the open-source xemu original Xbox emulator. Its Alpha 1 release can already boot several Xbox titles and offers features including per-game settings, game patches, performance monitoring, and internal resolution scaling of up to 4x. However, compatibility and performance remain works in progress.
Current developer testing highlights just how demanding emulation can be. Halo 2 reportedly runs at around 30 FPS without a patch and 36 - 50 FPS with a 60-FPS patch, while Forza Motorsport reaches roughly 15 - 21 FPS during races. Fable: The Lost Chapters reportedly runs at 22 - 30 FPS, though heavier scenes can drop to 10 - 20 FPS.

The emulator also appears to be primarily CPU-limited, with the Xbox CPU thread busy 85 - 97% of the time. The developer attributes this to QEMU's general-purpose TCG translation and the PS5's relatively modest single-thread performance.
Xbox 360 emulation is already being explored as well. Developer BrinoBlitz has demonstrated an early Xbox 360 emulator on PS5 and says a release will follow after remaining bugs are resolved. Unlike XPSemu, however, there is currently no public build, compatibility list, or performance data.
A separate project called PP (PS5 Proton) takes the idea further by using a Wine-based approach to bring Windows applications and PC games to jailbroken PS5 hardware. The developer has demonstrated the concept, but there is no public build or compatibility data yet.

All of this is arriving shortly after the Relapse jailbreak expanded PS5 homebrew access to consoles running firmware versions 7.00 through 13.60. The broader pool of exploitable hardware has given developers a fresh target for emulators and other unofficial software.

For now, the original Xbox emulator is the only one of these three projects with a public playable build. Still, the rapid pace of development suggests the PS5 homebrew scene is only beginning to explore what the hardware can do.
