Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 is not only the biggest Holiday 2026 release for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, but it's also shaping up to be the biggest entertainment launch of all-time. And with that, its release is on track for November 19; there are basically no major game releases scheduled to launch in the weeks prior or post GTA 6's highly anticipated debut.
That is, aside from one game from notable publisher Devolver Digital. The name behind some of the most beloved, weird, and notable indie game releases over the past decade or so is set to launch the action-platformer Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed from developer Doinksoft.
Starring Devolver Digital's unofficial mascot Volvy, this retro-inspired action-platformer with classic 16-bit-era graphics is an homage to old-school gaming. In fact, Devolver is marketing it as a "remaster" of a classic game with "meticulously redrawn" graphics, even though it's brand new. And for $5, it's not exactly going to eat into GTA's sales.
"Tasteful video game aficionados can preorder Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed on Steam with a 25% discount on the $4.99 base price, or they can buy GTA 6 for $100 like some sucker," Devolver writes in the press release. "Adventure across four revamped worlds full of naughty baddies and menacing boss fights while collecting delicious onions to keep Volvy at extreme levels of awesome! Whip out your big hand for whatever comes your way - from helicoptering over huge chasms and grinding radical rails to dashing through the skies and fisting your way deep underground."

It's a fun-looking game, and going up against GTA 6 will probably increase awareness for fans of pixel-art action-platformers. And with that, the only other games that we'd probably see come out around GTA 6's launch would be smaller indie titles like this. Especially when all of the heavy hitters like Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, God of War Laufey, Fable, Persona 4 Revival, and Metro 2039 are all getting out of the GTA's way and launching in February 2027.
