Bungie quickly debunks false rumors about the Destiny and Marathon franchises merging together, clarifying that these IPs are entirely separate.

Recent reports say that Destiny and Marathon could be unified in some way, with Bungie planning a big surprise cross-over. That's not happening. Marathon's creative director Julia Nardin squashed the rumor with a simple Tweet, saying that the two franchises are, and will remain, separate.
Popular Now: Developer abandons PS5 Linux project after people found a Hypervisor bug and reported it to Sony"As someone who's worked on both Destiny and Marathon, I can confirm that the 'leak' about us merging the two IPs is fake. They share a lot of the same Bungie DNA, but like siblings they're also their own independent entities. Please don't believe everything you read online," the Bungie developer said.
The false info stems partly from Bungie adding a PVE mode into Marathon, which makes it feel one step closer to becoming Destiny.
It's also from Bungie's current tough position with Marathon and Destiny 2, both of which have low player counts compared to their rivals, at least on Steam. Sony is also dialing back spending on big productions due to economic uncertainties like the weak yen and a bid to preserve profits, and Sony has adjusted how its money is being invested in new projects and games as a result.
Cost-cutting measures made at the behest of the tumultuous economy have slashed Bungie's workforce. Destiny 2 has been put on the back burner, but it's still online, along with its microtransactions and DLC. The layoffs have affected morale for those that remain to work on new updates for Marathon, which remains Bungie's current expanding-content live game.
