Microsoft has officially declared Windows on Arm a "first-class platform for any workload," citing growing customer demand for devices powered by the new architecture family.

The company cited progress in Windows 11 on Arm PCs, including improved performance and significant gains in software and application compatibility, the biggest hurdle the platform faces. Klaus Diaconu, Partner Director at Microsoft, said market demand is driving silicon providers and OEM partners to invest more in Windows on Arm devices, as customers want "powerful and efficient Windows devices".
According to Microsoft, Windows 11 on Arm has now reached a point of optimization where it can achieve a wide range of tasks, converting it from what was once a niche solution to a viable option for mainstream computing. There is now more than 7,000 apps that have hit "compatible" status for Windows on Arm. Now, whether those apps are actually optimized properly and provide a clean, X86-comparable experience is another matter entirely.


The firm also highlighted enhanced emulation capabilities and better performance for apps not natively built for Arm, two areas that will need to keep improving for Windows on Arm to remain competitive with x86 devices.
