Rockstar's wild west outlaw opus Red Dead Redemption 2 is now the third best-selling video game of all time by shipments. According to Take-Two's latest FY26 earnings report, the game has shipped more than 85 million units worldwide on consoles and PC combined, beating out the previous third spot-holder, Wii Sports at 82.9 million.

Sales trends show that Arthur Morgan's adventure typically ships anywhere from 2-3 million copies per quarter, including both digital and physical units.

On an annual basis, Red Dead Redemption 2 sells anywhere from 7-11 million copies per year, except for FY19, where the game sold 24 million units in the two back-to-back quarters after launch. The second-highest shipment point is 11 million, and interestingly enough, Rockstar achieved one of these milestones in FY26. Despite the game being nearly eight years old, RDR2 is still selling strong.

Rockstar makes frequent use of aggressive sales discounts and promotions that often lowers the game's price tag down to $14.99 - $19.99 to entice gamers. These sales numbers show that the tactic works--Rockstar is a lot like Capcom in this way, as the Japanese publisher also holds major discounts on its games to move heavy sales volume.

The developer is expected to re-release Red Dead Redemption natively for ninth generation consoles, as the current version of the game is the PS4 and PS4 Pro optimized ports that are both backwards compatible on the PS5. Nothing has been announced just yet as Rockstar is currently all-in on GTA 6's development.
