NVIDIA's RTX Remix is a powerful and easy-to-use set of AI-enhanced modding tools that allows the modding community to convert older titles into a modern engine, opening the door to a new level of remastered visuals. And yes, this includes ray-tracing, path tracing, and support for technologies like DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation.
RTX Remix is the technology behind the impressive Half-Life 2 RTX mod that is remaking Valve's iconic shooter with new models, animation, and path-traced lighting. Over on ModDB, the vibrant RTX Remix community is working on remasters and ray-traced updates for classic games like Fallout: New Vegas, Max Payne, Mafia, Grand Theft Auto III, Deus Ex, and many more.
With that, NVIDIA and ModDB are currently hosting a $50K RTX Remix Mod Contest, which will award $50,000 in cash prizes to the most impressive RTX Remix mods for classic PC games.
The Grand Prize of $20,000 in cash will be awarded to the 'Best Overall RTX Remix Mod,' with the winner chosen based on the mod showcasing remastered textures and RTX lighting while maintaining 'an excellent playable experience.' The mod can be a slice (a short playable section) or demo, so there's no need to remaster or remix an entire game to be eligible.
Cash prizes of $10,000 will also be awarded to 'Best Use of RTX in a Mod,' which focuses on a specific lighting effect for graphics update, the 'Most Complete RTX Mod' for a fully playable remaster, and the 'Community Choice RTX Mod' as voted on by the ModDB community.
The entry deadline is July 18, so head here for the full competition details and conditions. Existing RTX Remix projects currently in development are eligible; however, "a transformative update" must be showcased to be considered.
