Predictably enough, the new Oblivion remaster in Unreal Engine 5 is a big hit. While we don't know exact game sales performance, Bethesda did confirm over 4 million people had played Oblivion Remastered across all platforms as of April 25, indicating a 3-day span to accumulate these players.

"We are so grateful to the over 4 million of you that have already ventured into Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered. Thank you!" Bethesda said on Twitter.

Oblivion has been the top-seller on Steam for days in a row, and Valve confirms the Remaster has sold at least 214,000 copies via its concurrent users data.

SteamDB notes that Oblivion Remastered had around 216K concurrent users in-game at one time, and there's multiple guesses that estimate between 700K and 1.69 million copies have been sold on Steam alone.

Oblivion Remastered currently sits as the #1 top-selling game on the PlayStation Store. (UPDATE: 4/29/25) Oblivion on the top paid games on Xbox consoles, and is a top-played game on Game Pass, indicating a healthy mix of both sales and Game Pass user engagement.

As far as the players metric is concerned, Xbox and Microsoft started reporting "players" instead of sales in a bid to quantify the growth of the Game Pass subscription. This remains one of the most important pieces of data for the company but the info mix does make it difficult to determine actual sales.

As Microsoft gaming CEO Phil Spencer tells Variety:

"I look at the overall hours of people who are playing on Xbox, playing our games, and that's a number that continues to grow fairly substantially, and that's really the metric I think about for success."
