NVIDIA could soon see its customized GeForce RTX 5090D graphics card banned in China, removed from shelves that would see gamers in the country shedding tears.

The Trump administration just updated its US export restrictions, immediately banning NVIDIA's tweaked H20 AI GPU from entering China, causing NVIDIA to write off $5.5 billion of revenue for Q1 2025. But now, according to a new post on the Chiphell forums, we're hearing that NVIDIA has suspended the sales of its highest-end RTX 509D in China.
Not only that, but NVIDIA has reportedly talked to AIBs to halt any and all sales of their custom GeForce RTX 5090D graphics cards in preparation for the new bans. The post continues, saying that this is a "precautionary" move by NVIDIA, as the situation between the United States and China is (very much) on-going.
This is similar to how things played out with NVIDIA, the US, and China last time: the H100 and A100 series AI GPUs were controlled through the Biden administration, leaving NVIDIA unsure of what was happening with the RTX 4090, which was banned in the end. NVIDIA is now taking the precautionary step of culling production of the RTX 5090D in China as the H20 AI GPU was just banned.
AIB partners like COLODUL and Palit have stopped selling their custom GeForce RTX 5090D graphics cards, while Benchlife reports from a "cooling module manufacturer" for the RTX 5090D, that it also received a notice from AIBs to stop material preparations for the GPU.
AMD is reportedly working on the Radeon RX 9070 GRE which is destined for China, which could erode what little market share the RTX 5090D was able to create in the few months it has been on Chinese shelves.
