Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 upgrade transforms it into a kind of social experience for friends.

The Switch 2 is coming June 5, and it has two selling points: Power upgrades and social play. The Switch 2 comes with a new C-button (that's tied to the $50 Switch Online+Expansion Pack subscription) that launches GameChat (voice/video chatting) and GameShare (share a copy with a friend). Nintendo is now adding these Switch 2 enhancements to older games, breathing new life in them in the process.
The Switch 2 next-gen game enhancements aim to take advantage of the console's selling points. Older games are getting next-gen re-releases called Switch 2 Editions that offer up to 4K 60FPS performance that takes advantage of the Switch 2's new power upgrades, and social features, like being able to chat with friends while playing in-game. Some Switch 1 titles are getting special new features that open up new ways to play and you'll have to pay extra to access them.
Nintendo has outlined some new details on the next-gen Switch 2 upgrades for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. The most exciting upgrade is how the Switch 2 Edition will let you share in-game items with friends. It makes the game significantly more player friendly, and gives lapsed players an opportunity to jump back in and help their friends.
So the Switch 2 Edition of Tears of the Kingdom lets you download an app called Zelda Notes. This isn't just a diary app, but a kind of second-screen app where you can do inventory and item management.
You can place items from the game into Zelda Notes' digital bank. You can also withdraw these items at any time. You can gift items to friends, too.
Plus, you can even create QR codes to your shared item box and share it with anyone, anywhere, even people on social media. It gets better: Some items can even be traded between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Remember that these features will only be available in both the Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. If you already own both games, you'll have to buy each game's $10 next-gen Switch Edition upgrade in order to trade items in between both games.
