Whenever Rockstar releases Grand Theft Auto 6, the gaming market will come to a standstill regarding new releases from other publishers, as they won't want their product to be consumed in the tsunami of GTA news in the media, and gamers simply not even hearing about their new game/content because they are too busy running around in Rockstar's new world.
This sentiment was echoed by at least three big video game publishers, according to Christopher Dring from The Game Business, who recently penned a report stating that at least three major publishers are ready to delay their game just to avoid the release of GTA 6 due to how big a splash it will make.
According to the report, a boss "of one of the world's biggest game publishers" said to him "Rockstar games always suck a lot of money and, more importantly, time out of the market. We don't want to be anywhere near that. We are working up multiple different plans for our titles."
It's not even major game publishers that are afraid of their game being swallowed by GTA 6 dropping, but also developers of live-service games, with Dring reporting that two developers of "top 10 live-service games" are avoiding any major content releases for their titles during the GTA 6 launch window. According to the report, these developers plan to "nudge" their planned content release by at least three weeks either forward or backward in time to avoid GTA 6.
