Hardware Unboxed posted on X saying: "Did I miss this story? MSI has been completely removed from AMD's Radeon 7000 series, all existing products have been discontinued and they never released a 7700 XT / 7800 XT. This all seems to have happened very quietly". HBU isn't wrong, this has happened very quietly indeed.

You can pick up AMD's flagship RDNA 3 GPU, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, for $850

Kosta Andreadis | Apr 24, 2024 11:59 PM CDT

A flagship GPU rarely gets a significant price cut; when you get to the absolute high-end, the high-end performance drives interest, with price coming in second. Just look at NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090. It's an absolute monster of a GPU, but it is selling for around $100 - $200 more than its eye-watering $1,599 USD MSRP. And it's a popular option for PC gamers, according to the latest Steam Hardware Survey.

You can pick up AMD's flagship RDNA 3 GPU, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, for $850

AMD's RDNA 3 flagship, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, doesn't compete with the GeForce RTX 4090. Its closest NVIDIA counterpart is the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, released earlier this year. As the flagship RDNA 3 card with 24GB of GDDR6 memory and decent second-generation ray-tracing performance, it's still very much a 4K powerhouse for PC gaming.

This is why being able to pick one up for $849.99 is a great deal for PC gaming enthusiasts. Granted, this is limited to a single model, the PowerColor Hellhound Radeon RX 7900 XTX, and a single retailer - Newegg. Members can get $100 off the regular $949.99 for a limited time by entering a code at checkout.

AMD's new RDNA 4 Radeon RX 8000 generation will use the same GDDR6 memory as previous gen

Kosta Andreadis | Apr 24, 2024 3:02 AM CDT

According to insider @Kepler_L2, known for revealing hardware info for upcoming unannounced GeForce and Radeon hardware, AMD's next-generation RDNA 4 graphics cards will skip GDDR7 and stick with GDDR6 for the memory configuration.

AMD's new RDNA 4 Radeon RX 8000 generation will use the same GDDR6 memory as previous gen

AMD won't be upgrading or changing the memory spec and will stick with 18 Gbps GDDR6 for all cards in the lineup. As previously reported, NVIDIA is moving its Blackwell and GeForce RTX 50 Series to the new GDDR7 standard, starting with 28 Gbps speeds.

Sticking to older tech for its supposed next-gen RDNA 4 lineup might sound strange, but the reasoning makes sense when you factor in that the Radeon RX 8000 series won't target the high-end.

GALAX has an ultra-thin single-slot GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB MAX graphics card

Kosta Andreadis | Apr 23, 2024 9:03 AM CDT

With the new MAX single-slot model (only 20mm thick), GALAX's latest GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB GPU is built for tight fits and small cases with limited space. Single-slot GPUs are rare in 2024, especially for the RTX 4060 Ti class, so this one immediately caught our attention.

GALAX has an ultra-thin single-slot GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB MAX graphics card

However, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB MAX employs a blower-style fan to keep the size down. The difference between the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB and 16GB variants is only 5W (bringing the rating up to an efficient 165W) in additional power, so the overall cooling requirements are about the same.

GALAX chose the 16GB variant over NVIDIA's 8GB cards probably due to AI performance, where intensive models and workloads rely heavily on VRAM capacity, with some unable to run on 8GB cards. And in terms of putting together an AI rig - a single-slot GPU option like this begins to make a lot of sense.

New Intel Arc graphics driver for desktop GPUs and Core Ultra improves Fortnite performance

Intel Arc graphics driver 5444 is significant in that it brings notable performance improvements to a range of DirectX 11 titles, including Fortnite, and fixes some outstanding issues. Diablo IV will no longer "exhibit corruption on the terrain during gameplay" on Intel Core Ultra devices. At the same time, the recently released Early Access action RPG No Rest for the Wicked will no longer crash during the prologue (though it might still crash during gameplay).

As far as performance improvements go, a few of the most notable include Astroneer (DX11) getting up to a 30% boost to average FPS at 1080p with Ultra settings on discrete Intel Arc GPUs, with Mass Effect Legendary Edition (DX11) getting up to a 48% increase to average FPS at 1080p with Medium settings on Intel Core Ultra devices.

Several Radeon RX 7700 XT models from AMD partners are now available for under $400

Kosta Andreadis | Apr 17, 2024 11:59 PM CDT

AMD's Radeon RX 7700 XT has always felt a little out of place because when it launched alongside the Radeon RX 7800 XT last year, only $50 USD separated the two graphics cards. This made the Radeon RX 7800 XT look like the better option, as the extra performance meant that it competed directly with the impressive GeForce RTX 4070.

Cut to February 2024, and AMD announced that it was officially dropping the MSRP of the Radeon RX 7700 XT from $449 USD to $419 USD. This is a modest price drop but a step in the right direction, as the Radeon RX 7700 XT's performance makes it a great alternative to the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. Immediately following the price cut, we reported on some models, like the reference Sapphire PULSE variant, sold for $399.

It looks like AMD's partners are dropping the Radeon RX 7700 XT price to under $400 across several models (thanks Videocardz.com) - with options from Sapphire, ASRock, and PowerColor below.

With well over 500 games and apps using RTX technologies like DLSS, a new batch of PC games each week adds support for NVIDIA's AI-powered upscaling and Frame Generation tech. This week, three titles are adding support for DLSS 2 upscaling with DLAA, including the popular Manor Lords launching into Early Access on April 26.

DLSS comes to three new games, Manor Lords sees a 47% average boost to performance in 4K

The excellent news for GeForce RTX gamers is that DLSS will see a 47% average boost to performance when playing in 4K, with everything from the GeForce RTX 4070 and higher able to deliver a 60+ FPS experience at this resolution. NVIDIA notes that all desktop GeForce RTX 40 Series cards can provide a 60+ FPS experience at 1440p and 1080p with max settings.

Manor Lords is currently the most wish-listed game on Steam, with the ambitious medieval strategy game mixing city-building, social simulation, and large-scale Total War-style battles. It's the sort of game that will push PC hardware to its limits, so it's a good thing it's launching with DLSS.
