It looks like EA is about to announce or at least tease its new Need for Speed title, something we knew was coming but it seems EA is packing the hype train a little more in the last 24 hours.

The official Need for Speed website has been updated with a new countdown, something that ends don August 14. This is a week out from Gamescom 2019 which starts on August 20, and this year above all is a very special one for the Need for Speed franchise.

Need for Speed will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, with the first game releasing all the way back in 1994. I remember, as I played hell out of it when it was released. It's actually crazy to think that it has been a 25-year franchise, but it has been a successful ride along the way and I'm excited to see where the franchise goes next.

I'm hoping Criterion Games is in the developer chair for the new Need for Speed, with more creative control over the franchise. I want to see them back in their glory, with a kick ass new Need for Speed game.

EA said back in May: "Our goal is to deliver a truly memorable high-speed entry into the 25 years of NFS, rather than a series of promotional events. The game matters most - a sentiment we bet you share with us".
