Apple has just announced their new all-in-one desktop, the iMac Pro, and boy does it have some hefty specs. We're looking at Apple's new iMac Pro starting at $4999... and scaling much higher than that if you pack it with all of the tech goodies you can imagine.
Apple's new iMac Pro will begin shipping in December, starting with an 8-core Intel Xeon CPU - but you can choose options right up to the insanely powerful 18-core Xeon processor. Not only that, but you can option it with a 27-inch 5K display and AMD's new Radeon Vega GPU. There's also 10GbE network connectivity, and 4 x Thunderbolt 3 ports.
You can option the Radeon Pro Vega with up to 16GB of HBM2 memory, while Apple will offer up to an insane 128GB of 2666MHz DDR4 ECC RAM, and up to 4TB of SSD storage. Apple intends for people to buy their new iMac Pro for high-end editing and graphics work, and even gaming and VR since the new iMac Pro is VR-ready as well.
Apple has designed the new iMac Pro with "innovative dual-blowers, a massive heat sink and extra venting", something that provides it with 75% more airflow, and an 80% increase in system thermal capacity. The new iMac Pro is capable of 500W, 67% more power than the previous-gen iMac.
Radeon Pro Vega
This is something new and something that, to my memory, AMD hasn't announced or discussed yet. Apple are using the Radeon Pro Vega inside of the new iMac Pro, with 11 TFLOPS of single precision compute performance, and up to 22 TFLOPs of half precision performance.
Apple provides the option for either 8GB or 16GB of HBM2, with up to 400GB/sec memory bandwidth - down from the 480GB/sec on Radeon Vega Frontier Edition.
