CD Projekt Red revealed the first trailer for The Witcher 3's final expansion, Songs of the Past, at Gamescom's Opening Night Live. The CGI trailer brings Geralt of Rivia back one more time, with Doug Cockle reprising his voice role, and it leans hard into the dark, melancholy tone the title suggests.
Songs of the Past sends Geralt to a brand new region called Letten after his old friend Dandelion the bard invites him there. Apparently, what starts as a favor turns into uncovering a supernatural mystery tied to the area's "dark lurking secrets." CDPR has kept plot details thin so far, showing only glimpses of a mysterious woman near a tree in the trailer.
Combat-wise, Geralt picks up a new chain weapon along with fresh mutagens, and the expansion adds new main quests, side content, and points of interest across Letten. CDPR has been firm that this isn't a small DLC. The studio has compared its scale to Blood and Wine and Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty, both full-sized expansions rather than small additions. It's being co-developed with Fool's Theory, and is meant to bridge the story from The Witcher 3 into The Witcher 4, where Ciri takes over as protagonist.
Alongside the trailer, CDPR confirmed a free remaster for the base game arriving September 29. Existing Witcher 3 owners get upgraded visuals, improved combat feel, and better traversal at no extra cost. It's a solid move ahead of Songs of the Past, since anyone replaying the base game to get ready will be doing so on the newer build.
