As fears rise of generative AI replacing art and artists, Microsoft's head of AI says that real human creativity will still be important.

Artificial intelligence is here, and it's shaking up the tech world with billions invested in the new tech. Microsoft, one of the biggest supporters and accelerators of AI, is reportedly restructuring its business around AI. The fear is high that AI will heavily disrupt art, entertainment, and interactive content production, especially in gaming; Microsoft's proprietary MUSE generative AI can create games with controller inputs alone.
Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft's AI division, tries to allay these worries with assurances that humans will still be integral to the new AI revolution. Especially when it comes to creation and production--Suleyman, like most proponents of the tech, believes that AI will augment human skills and abilities in various fields.
"For all the fear about a deluge of AI-generated content, I genuinely believe that creativity will remain the real currency," Suleyman said on Twitter.
"Human ingenuity, style, craft are going to matter more not less."
Microsoft is investing heavily into AI, and helped OpenAI grow to what it is today with a $10 billion investment in 2021. The company invested $80 billion into AI in one fiscal year alone:
"In FY 2025, Microsoft is on track to invest approximately $80 billion to build out AI-enabled datacenters to train AI models and deploy AI and cloud-based applications around the world.," Microsoft President Brad Smith wrote earlier this year.

In gaming, Microsoft is making headway with this own in-house generative AI tool MUSE, which renders gameplay in real-time without the need for coders or game developers. Players simply have to hook up a controller and MUSE will map the game out based on movement commands.
Microsoft has also teamed up with InWorld to provide its Xbox game developers with AI tools, including AI-generated NPC dialog, questlines, and more.
The next Xbox console will also be tooled around AI, both on a chip and user experience level.
