If you've ever imagined that it might be hell to work in a fast-food restaurant, someone has taken that thought very literally, making a Doom 2 mod that has the player serving the various demons that we all loved to frag many moons ago in this ancient shooter.
PC Gamer noticed the Doom 2 mod, which is called 'Put The Fries In The Bag' and comes from a modder by the name of SlendyMawn.
As explained in the YouTube clip above, the modder created the fast-food restaurant setting (a well-known brand - and yes, this whole thing is a copyright and legal minefield) in Ultimate Doom Builder.
The challenge is simple, but incredibly arduous: keep on serving the denizens of hell as they come up to the counter (during the graveyard shift) with the correct amount of fries and burgers (or 'borgors' in this case) that they order.
The trouble is that as the game progresses, the orders get incredibly lengthy and involve a lot of clicking - and some very unhappy, or indeed enraged, demons if you get things wrong.
You can only get two orders wrong in total - three strikes, and it's game over - and apparently it'll take about two hours of fast-clicking order-filling to complete the game and unlock the title of regional manager of the restaurant.
As the creator observes, the idea was to create a simultaneously deadly boring and very stressful challenge, and it sounds like the mod has successfully achieved that - while being suitably entertaining in its premise and execution.
Whether or not the mod will be struck down by the copyright demons, we shall have to see, but for now, you can test your demon-placating fast-food skills by grabbing the mod here (at your own risk as ever - you'll also need GZDoom and Doom2.wad).
