UPDATE: The new DualShock 4 controller doesn't have two lightbars after all. It's just the same LED lightbar that's pulsing through a new slit in the touchpad. Your controller batteries are safe!

Sony will be discontinuing current PS4 models in favor of a cheaper, thinner (and uglier) PS4 "Slim" model which apparently comes with a new DualShock 4 controller.

The new smaller, thinner and cheaper PS4 "Slim" has been officially confirmed by Eurogamer. The PS4 Slim isn't going to side alongside current PS4 consoles--it's going to replace it as your typical console refresh, according to WSJ sources. But that's not all that's going to be replaced: the new PS4 model with allegedly come with a new DualShock 4 controller design, and YouTuber ZRZ has apparently gotten ahold of the new PS4 Slim controller to reveal some rather perplexing new changes.

The PS4 Slim's new DualShock 4 controller has an extra LED lightbar at the top of the touchpad, the video shows, which seems to blink in tandem with the default lightbar. The extra lightbar will likely change colors like the original DualShock 4, and this could be quite a distraction to gamers.

Hopefully the new standard PS4 model will allow gamers to shut off the both lightbars (or at least the top one). PS4 owners have been quite vocal about their dislike for the LED lightbar as it drains controller battery life, and an extra lightbar is probably the last thing Sony should've done.

It's also possible that this new DualShock 4 may ship with Sony's new upgraded PS4 Neo console.

Evidence of a new DualShock 4 controller has been mounting over the last few weeks when a new model CUH-ZCT2U was spotted on FCC filings, and yesterday Twitter user OuterPixel uncovered some pictures of the new controller. Of course, he wasn't able to turn it on to see if it had an extra lightbar.

The leaked PS4 Slim pictures (which have been verified as genuine) reveal the console won't have a optical out port, and apparently features a HDD swap bay on the left side.
