The motherboard wars are firing up again right before Computex, with GIGABYTE overtaking ASUS to become the world's largest motherboard vendor, according to the latest preliminary shipment figures, reports Digitimes.
GIGABYTE shipped around 4.8 million motherboards in Q1, while ASUS shipped around 4.5 million. Between the two Taiwanese giants, they make up around 80% of China's motherboard market. MSI and ASRock come in third and fourth place, with both of them churning out around 3 million motherboards each. Both companies are looking to hit around 6.5 million units each for the entire of 2015.
With a slowing demand on motherboards and with GIGABYTE and ASUS securing most of the consumers, MSI has moved its focus over to the gaming notebook market, while ASRock is slowly shifting over to making products for the IPC server market.
