A mischievous schoolboy's dream, this USB will kill your PC

Thinking back to my high-schooling days, the amount of bored teenagers that would find out various ways to break, maim or destroy school computers was "too damn high" as the popular meme states.

Instead of turning the CRT monitor display sideways, taking the rubber belts off the CD drive trays to ensure they don't work or trying to use strong magnets to wreak havoc on CRT monitors and hard drives alike, this USB drive has been developed and discovered on this Russian website, naming it "USB killer" and with an obvious motive in mind.

Translated by Kukuruku Hub, the basic function of this device is to fry your computer: "When we connect it up to the USB port, an inverting DC/DC converter runs and charges capacitors to -110V. When the voltage is reached, the DC/DC is switched off. At the same time, the filed transistor opens. It is used to apply the -110V to signal lines of the USB interface. When the voltage on capacitors increases to -7V, the transistor closes and the DC/DC starts. The loop runs till everything possible is broken down."

Judging by the explanation we're not looking at movie star explosions or complete meltdowns, but it is very likely that you'll blow up the USB port that you're plugged in to within a short amount of time.
