TL;DR: ASUS has launched the ROG Equalizer, a redesigned 12V-2x6 PCIe power cable that improves load distribution and reliability for high-end GPUs like the RTX 50-series. Priced at $49.99, it reduces overheating risks, lowers temperatures by about 9C, and will be bundled with select 2026 ROG power supplies.

ASUS has started rolling out its ROG Equalizer cable. The redesigned 12V-2x6 PCIe power cable was introduced two weeks ago and is now available on the official ASUS store. ASUS positions it as a hardware-level protection layer for high-end graphics cards, particularly RTX 50-series GPUs, using the 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR connector.

As spotted by @unikoshardware, ASUS has priced the ROG Equalizer at $49.99, close to the pre-launch estimate of around $41. At the time of writing, the cable is already out of stock, which, given the number of reports of PCIe cables melting or overheating, is not particularly surprising.

For those out of the loop, ASUS designed the ROG Equalizer to address overheating and melting issues associated with the notorious 16-pin 12V-2x6 connector. The cable distributes the load equally across all wires in the connector, increasing each wire's load capacity from 9.2A to 17A, and making it significantly more reliable than a standard cable.

The cable will not remain a standalone accessory either. ASUS has already confirmed it will bundle the cable with the 2026 ROG Thor III and ROG Strix Platinum power supplies, with availability varying by region and a staged rollout starting in Q2 2026. Users with ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1-compliant PSUs from major manufacturers can use the cable without any compatibility concerns.

As for how effective ROG's solution is, early testing by a user who received the cable bundled with a ROG Strix 1200W Platinum PSU showed a drop of around 9C in temperature and tighter voltage control compared to a standard cable when used with a GeForce RTX 5090D AORUS Master ICE.

ASUS's ROG Equalizer Cable is now available for $50, and it could save your RTX 50 series GPU 2

The ROG Equalizer now joins a small list of solutions tackling this issue, including the Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro 2 at nearly $140, a device for measuring GPU power consumption, and ASRock's L-Type connector cable, which uses an NTC sensor to monitor temperature and protect the connector from overheating. GIGABYTE also recently added "T-Guard Active GPU Protection" technology to its newer PSUs, which adds thermistors to the 12V-2x6 connector for active monitoring and stable power delivery.
