Three new characters are coming to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, confirms Ubisoft

It was recently leaked via an Indonesian Ratings database that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced will feature "new characters and stories". While it had been rumored for months now, nobody really knew what the new Black Flag project was going to be. There was speculation among gamers about whether the new "Resynced" would be a remaster like Assassin's Creed 3 or a remake with brand-new content.

It seems like we have got the answer now, with Ubisoft's official worldwide reveal showcase of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. As speculated before, the new Resynced project is indeed a remake with brand-new characters, story arcs, gameplay mechanics, and much more. Ubisoft lifted the curtain on the inner workings of Black Flag Resynced in a 28-minute showcase on 23rd April.

In Resynced, we will meet three new characters who will take the role of officers for our crew. Ubisoft introduced them as Lucy Baldwin, The Padre, and Deadman Smith. These are not faceless NPCs either, as we can see fully detailed, unique models for the characters in the reveal trailer. Furthermore, Ubisoft says each character will have a unique narrative questline that reveals their backstory.

Giving each character a unique questline makes them important side characters that will enrich the Black Flag Resynced experience. Ubisoft also revealed during the showcase that completing their respective questlines will unlock special abilities for the Jackdaw. Employing Deadman Smith, for example, will unlock a double-shot ability for your broadside cannons.

The new content for the Black Flag remake does not end there. Ubisoft also revealed that there will be brand-new quests and story arcs for fan-favorite characters Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Paul Fu, creative director of Black Flag Resynced, also revealed that there will be a brand-new scene featuring Edward Kenway's wife, Caroline, in the game, likely expanding on Edward's personal relationships.

And even with that information, we are barely scratching the surface of the improvements that Resynced brings over the original, making it a "remake" in the true sense of the word. There will also be new additions to tailing/eavesdropping missions, as getting detected will no longer trigger an automatic desynchronization. The player will have to figure out how to achieve the objectives while being detected by the enemy.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced will launch on July 9th, 2026. Ubisoft will be charging full price for the remake, with the standard edition at $59.99, the Deluxe at $69.99, and the Collector's Edition at $199.99. They also confirmed that the original Black Flag will remain available for purchase. I, for one, cannot wait to sail the high seas again to the sound of crashing waves and sea shanties. Did I mention there were new sea shanties too?
