With the introduction of hybrid flash drives and these solutions seemingly becoming more popular as time passes, it was only fitting that we would at some point see a solution come through from Patriot. The Stellar is a new platform if you will, from Patriot, and it testing starts for me with the 64 OTG.

The Stellar OTG is one of the newest solutions to come from Patriot Memory. Patriot is responsible for some our highest performing and best value flash solutions over the years. The drive we have in house today is aimed at mobile users that want the ability to move data from their PC or Mac to their Android 4.0 and above device, including smartphones and tablets. Capacity options for the Stellar range from 16GB to 64GB with each capacity having a different colored housing.

Compatibility of the Stellar OTG includes Android 4.0+, Windows ME all the way up to Windows 10 along with Linux 2.4+ and Mac OS 9+. MSRP of the 64GB Stellar OTG is set at $29.99 with a two-year warranty.

Packaging for the Stellar houses the drive in the center with a good amount of marketing information around it. The top right houses the capacity while the bottom has a list of supported platforms.

The back of the packaging dives into more detail on the drive including use scenarios.

The Stellar OTG we received for review was the 64GB model as noted by the gold coloring.

Removing the cap on the drive, we expose the micro USB connector used in Android smartphones and tablets.

On the opposite side of the drive, we have the USB 3.0 connection.

Starting off our testing, we take a look at our Android OTG charts. In the chart above, the Stellar was able to reach 144 MB/s read and 37.6 MB/s write.

With flash drives reaching higher performance, it was time to add an overall suite for testing flash drives. For this, I chose Anvils Storage Utilities as its really the only flash benchmark you need in consumer testing. With that said, the Stellar reached a final score of 422.61, which was in the middle of the pack.

Above are the results for our price/performance on OTG flash drives. As you can see above, the Stellar has taken top honors from the Nitro Plus from Strontium mostly due to its low cost and solid performance.

It never ceases to amaze me how well Patriot does when it comes to offering solid performance at a low cost. With the Stellar OTG, they have come back with more of the same high build quality with the drive's aluminum casing and good design aesthetics with its brushed design.

The performance was solid as well with the OTG reaching 144 MB/s read and 39 MB/s write. With that said, the Stellar wasn't the quickest drive we have tested, but as we started to look at cost and throw that into the mix, we quickly found Patriot offering this 64GB solution at 46 cents per GB which made it the cheapest solution we have tested to date. Adding Anvils testing into the mix threw yet another metric at the Stellar as it tests the drive's performance in everything including 4K, 32K and 128K and returns an overall score for the drive. In this test, the Stellar grabbed a 384 read score followed by a write score of 38.

Overall, for those of you looking for a flash solution for transferring data between devices including smartphones, the Stellar OTG is hard to pass up.
