The Bottom Line
For consumers and small business owners, the ability to setup your own surveillance system is a great solution to protecting your home or business. Taking things a bit further than your standard off the shelf solution, today we take a look at the latest PoE (Power over Ethernet) solution from D-Link, the DCS 2210.
The D-Link DCS-2210 is our first Full HD 1080p IP camera to come through the lab. Features include a two-megapixel CMOS sensor, 75 degree viewing angle, along with digital zoom capabilities up to 10x. Resolution support includes the previously mentioned 1080p at 15fps along with 720p at 30fps, while also having two way audio support.
Connectivity is issued over the built-in 10/100-ethernet port, which supports 802.3af PoE, in addition to the DI/DO for adding alarms and motion sensors to the camera.
MSRP of the D-Link DCS-2210 is set at $279.99 with a one-year warranty.
Scope of delivery includes the camera, Ethernet cable, reading materials, and a power adapter if you choose to forgo the PoE capabilities.
The front of the camera houses the IR LED, motion sensor and speaker.
Flipping the camera over, we found the Ethernet port next to the DI/DO ports.
The microSD slot is housed on the left side of the camera.
The WebGUI is similar to what we have seen from previous D-Link solutions. The landing page allows you view the live feed from the camera with ePTZ options to the left.
The image setup screen allows you to adjust the camera for anti-flicker, white balance and brightness among others.
Over on the Audio/Video menu, you can set up a few video profiles to your liking. The default profiles include a 1080p 15fps and 360p 30fps option.
Motion detection can be set up quite easily by dragging your mouse cursor over the areas you want to monitor.
The I/O connection menu allows you to setup the DI/DO ports so they can work with the alarm or motion sensor add on solutions.
The ICR and IR menu allows you to adjust the mode in which the camera operates, along with adjusting when you want the IR LED to activate.
For those that want to setup their very own IP surveillance solution, the DCS-2210 gives you more flexibility for placement options via the PoE capabilities, though you will need a capable switch solution to enable power to be broadcast through the Ethernet cable, the added benefit of not needing a standard power supply nearby is great. Build quality of the DCS-2210 is superb, but unlike previous cameras we have reviewed, this unit is made for indoor situations.
The performance of this camera was top-notch and as you can see in some of the still shots, the video quality was quite good. The live feed at 1080p seems to consume around 3 Mb/s at 15fps, which allows the 10/100 Ethernet connection to be more than enough to supply a steady feed, whether you're using the included D-View Cam software or a NVR.
