Zynga and EA set to kill popular Facebook games

Both Zynga and EA are in the midst of cost cutting efforts and Facebook games are the first to take the hit. Zynga has either marked or already shut down 24 games with more cuts coming.

EA has reportedly marked several of its popular app style games for end of life as well. The hard truth is that people are just not playing them anymore. Everyone is gaming on their mobile devices and not using facebook as their gaming console anymore.

Zynga is even planning on shutting down its most popular game, PetVille, which still attracts over a million users each month. That is about 60,000 users daily. This leaves us wondering where the next big gaming boom will take place.

GameStick brings a new Android game console to your TV, fits inside its own controller

PlayJam, a company known for its Smart TV roots, will be competing with the OUYA for Android-based gaming console supremacy this spring. The company is building the "GameStick", a TV based system that is no larger than a normal flash drive.

The finished version will even be capable of stowing itself inside its wireless gamepad. It will run Jellybean and dual-core Amlogic processor that while not as powerful as the Tegra 3 in the OUYA, should also not be as expensive.

PlayJam is still looking to raise $100,000 to push the GameStick through the last phase of development and is hoping to begin shipping the device in April of this year.

RumorTT: Sony to announce PlayStation 4 in February at Destination PlayStation

Sony has sent out an invite to members of the press for an event in February. Destination PlayStation will be held February 25-28 in Scottsdale, Arizona and will show off games, with attendees being "treated to food, drink, play, and a first look at all the amazing new releases coming from Sony Computer Entertainment America Entertainment in 2013."

SlashGear suspects that the PlayStation 4 will be announced here and released in 2014, if it follows past release trends from Sony. Couple this with the rumor that Sony has ended production of the PS2 to focus on the next-gen console, and it's starting to look really good for console gamers.

The PlayStation 4 will be competing against Microsoft's next-gen console, rumored to be called the Xbox 720, whenever it does eventually decide to launch. Some rumors have placed the announcements as E3 this year, but others say that it won't be until 2014. One thing is certain, they can't be too far in the future.

Sony finishes production of PlayStation 2 in Japan, fuels rumors resources are going towards PS4

An era has come to an end. Sony has finally stopped production of the PlayStation 2 for Japan. The console, which was first released in March of 2000, has been sold consistently since then, and managed to rack up 150 million sales. The device proved so popular that it actually outsold the PS3 for the first three years of the latter's availability.

By ending production of the PlayStation 2, Sony has caused some to speculate that they are putting the manufacturing resources towards the yet unannounced PlayStation 4, a next-gen console rumored to be announced at this year's E3 in June. Incredibly, it's believed that about 11,000 games have been produced for the console.

Sony has not announced plans to end production for other regions, though a 12-year lifespan is longer than most consoles enjoy and is a likely announcement to be made in the future.

Microsoft gives one month of free Xbox Live Gold to users affected by cloud outage

Some Xbox Live Gold users have experienced an outage for the cloud saving feature present in some games. Microsoft has now fixed the patch and automatically credited one month of free Xbox Live Gold to the users who were affected. Some were without their saves for mere hours, others for days.

We want to thank all of our Xbox LIVE members impacted by the Cloud Saved Games service issue for your patience and understanding. It took longer than we expected to get back to full performance as we needed to ensure the integrity of everyone's game saves. Whether you couldn't access your game saves for a couple of hours or a couple of days, we sincerely apologize for the delay and inconvenience. We will be automatically applying a one-month extension to the Xbox LIVE Gold memberships of everyone who was impacted. We can assure you we'll also be doing a thorough post mortem to help prevent this from happening again.

Again, this outage proves that the cloud is not a perfect solution. Local backups are important, and in this case, would have been easy to do. It is nice to see Microsoft being proactive in applying the Xbox Live Gold credit, rather than requiring users to ask for it. That still doesn't help if you were left without your game saves this weekend.

Diablo III is not getting Team Deathmatch mode, Dueling to come in future patch

Well, folks, Blizzard just confirmed that they will not be implementing a player-versus-player Team Deathmatch in Diablo III. Blizzard promised PvP modes for the game, but they have yet to materialize. Blizzard has said that plans for Dueling are still on and will be released in patch 1.0.7, which is coming sometime in 2013.

Keep in mind that Diablo III launched back in May of this year. At the time the game launched, Blizzard was promising these PvP features. Here's what they have to say about their plans:

Our original intent with PvP for Diablo 3 was to profide more formal support for the dueling community that existed in Diablo 2. This is how Team Deathmatch mode emerged, and it's been instrumental in making a lot of improvements to Diablo 3. But in continuing to develop this mode, playtest it, and put it infront of other developers within the company, we've found that it falls short of our expectations for a high-quality Blizzard experience.

For us it comes to a few issues, one of which is depth. Simply fighting each other with no other objective or choices to make gets old relatively quickly. Another is class balance. Like Diablo 2, Diablo 3 was designed to be a PvE-first kind of game, where we never compromised on player abilities in the name of future PvP balance.

If you were looking forward to these features, how have you reacted to them not being released timely? How do you feel about Team Deathmatch being removed from their plans?

Sony stops shipments of PS2 console in Japan

Even though the PS3 was released about 6 years ago, Sony has continued to sell the PlayStation 2 in Japan which has continued to see titles released for it by Japanese game studios.

Selling more than 150 million units, the PlayStation 2 is hands down the most popular gaming console in history. First launched in 2000, the PlayStation 2 has been a staple in more homes world wide than common place appliances like the Microwave.

According to Japanese site Famitsu, the console is being discontinued in its homeland, although there's no word on whether Sony plans to do the same in other territories.

Dead Space 3 will react to your profanity-fueled rage screams

The Dead Space series is one my favorite series ever, and the third one is shaping up to better than ever. Dead Space 3 will arrive on the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 - which the latter gets some very cool features.

If you've got a Kinect setup, the motion and voice sensor will detect when you give it certain voice commands and will take advantage of the jump scares in the game itself. The Executive Producer of the game, Steve Papoutsis, says:

There are commands where you might be in a certain situation," he says, "and you might yell a specific expletive and it might behave in a way that you want it to.

This will lead gamers on a journey of working out which commands work and which don't, but the Internet is here so we should know all of those commands within the first week of the game being released.

Nintendo Wii U games aren't doing too well in the UK

The Nintendo Wii U only launched in the UK last month and it looks like the games aren't doing too well in the sales charts. The only Wii U games to make the all-format top 40 at launch were Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U which are in 26th and 36th place respectively.

Since the launch, there hasn't been any improvement in the sales of Wii U titles, with last week's sales charts showing off bad news for Nintendo UK. Both titles that previously made the all-format top 40 weren't in the new top 40.

Nintendo did have a game in the top 20, which was the New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Nintendo 3DS which slotted into 19th place.

RumorTT: Grand Theft Auto V releasing on March 26, 2013

Amazon may have let slip a piece of information gamers have been after ever since the announcement of Grand Theft Auto V: when will it be released? Well, according to Amazon, the game could be showing up on March 26, 2013. Of course, this date has not been confirmed and could be completely wrong, but let's take a look at it anyway.

TweakTown image news/2/7/27520_1_rumortt_grand_theft_auto_v_releasing_on_march_26_2013.jpg

The date fits into the Spring 2013 timeframe provided by Rockstar. Amazon's listing page is where the piece of information was posted, though it has since been removed. There are really only two options for why it was removed: it was either dead on the money or completely wrong.

An e-mail, pictured above, was also sent out to everyone who pre-ordered the game. In the e-mail, the estimated arrival date is set as March 27, 2013. Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt, but I'd be inclined to lean towards the game launching around that date (possibly on that day). We will, of course, keep you up-to-date with the latest GTAV news.
