Razer admits major issues with CES Appreciation Sale

Chris Smith | Jan 13, 2015 12:34 AM CST

CES 2015 - Min-Liang Tan, Razer's CEO has spoken up. According to him "we fucked up. I fucked up. The codes we sent out for the CES Appreciation Sale were reversed - i.e. the Blade codes were for peripherals and the Peripherals codes were for the Blades."

If you're still wanting to purchase an in-stock item for yourself, the big wig recommends that you "flip the codes (if you had noted them down before the sale started" and go for your life.

However many end users aren't satisfied, commenting on Razer's share of Tan's post - "[I] Waited 3 days resulting with lack of sleep. Both insider and store crashed, stock run out of within minutes, mixed up codes, page did not load, server's wasn't able to handle load of customers. In short, big blunder... It's nice to acknowledge the mistake hopefully the remedial will make it up to the disappointed fans and customers. Hopefully this don't happen with the remedial, I don't wanna wait for 3 days again with minimal sleep and ended up with nothing. Or else it might be time to consider switching products. Sadly but true and I'm sure I'm not the only person with this mindset right now. I still have faith in Razer I hope you guys will be able to make it up to the fans."

Sixense demo STEM at CES 2015 and blow our minds

Anthony Garreffa | Jan 7, 2015 9:06 PM CST

CES 2015 - Sixense is one of the companies in the industry that I'm most excited to see succeed, they worked with Razer on the Hydra motion controller, something I used when I played HLVR with the Oculus Rift and Razer Hydra. But Sixense have been working on the STEM system for quite a while now, and we're beginning to see them get closer to the finish line.

We met up with the great guys at Sixense, including Amir Rubin who is such a great guy and super intelligent. He walked me through the changes that the STEM system is still going through, improving each month with its internal component slowly getting smaller and smaller, as well as more efficient.

You don't know how much fun it is using the STEM system, shooting guns like they're right there in the VR world, or using a lightsaber. Totally, totally fun.

VPRO announce their mechanical gaming keyboard range

Chris Smith | Jan 6, 2015 11:06 PM CST

CES 2015 - Rapoo sub-brand VPRO has used CES 2015 as their launching platform for their new mechanical keyboard offerings - the V700 and V800.

Unfortunately there is no mention in their recently issued press release if they are Cherry MX mechanical switches or not, but either way these new products are worth a look at. Set for shipment in Spring 2015, the V700 keyboard claims 50 g of operating force and 2mm of key travel distance needed to function - this seems to hint that something like Cherry MX Black keys are being used within.

Alongside this key configuration, the V700 offers 106 out of 108 of the keys as fully programmable through their 32-bit ARM core processor labeled as their "VPOWER3 Gaming Chip." Expect this board to last an extended 60 million keystrokes and feature no backlighting options.

VPRO unleash their brand-new series of gaming mice

Chris Smith | Jan 6, 2015 10:52 PM CST

CES 2015 - under the banner of Rapoo , VPRO gaming has announced their new range of peripherals to hit the market this coming spring.

The mice on offer are their V900 laser, V300 optical and V200 optical offerings, all set to be priced nicely at under $70 on release. Their champion product V900 will be released with a 32-bit ARM core processor, helping speed up input commands. Alongside giving you adjustable DPI from 100 - 8200 and an image processing rate of 12000 FPS. This mouse features a multi-color lighting system to help increase user customization and will set you back $69.99 on release.

Slightly lower graded are their optical mice, the V300 and V200. Priced at $49.99 and $39.99 respectively, these mice offer a lightly lower image-processing rate of 6400 FPS, which honestly doesn't really matter anyway. The V300 gives you up to 4000 DPI to play with compared to the V200 offering between 500 and 3000 DPI total.

ROCCAT launch a modular gaming mouse with 3D-printed add-ons

Chris Smith | Jan 6, 2015 10:18 PM CST

CES 2015 - Quoted as a "fully modular chameleon peripheral that is a glove-fit to MMO gaming, that fluidly transforms into MOBA and FPS layouts thanks to custom button placement, and interchangeable side-parts" in their recent press release, ROCCAT are looking to appeal to almost any gamer with their new peripheral offering.

The ROCCAT Nyth features 3D-printed parts that are changeable as you see fit. If you're a heavy user of macro keys in games like World of Warcraft or a precision aimer in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, this mouse is deigned to suit either or both of those purposes.

"Our growing file library of 3-D printed buttons and side-parts will ensure Nyth users get value out of Nyth years past what anyone else is offering today" states Rene Korte, CEO and Founder of ROCCAT, further adding "it's adaptable and great fun to play with. Much like the human fingerprint, almost no Nyth will be the same as another once users bring their creative customizations into the picture."

ROCCAT launch their upgraded Ryos smartphone-connectable keyboard

Chris Smith | Jan 6, 2015 10:06 PM CST

CES 2015 - We've seen things like Logitech's keyboard with a smartphone dock , but nothing quite like what ROCCAT has just launched as part of their CES 2015 promotions.

Featuring RGB LEDs and smartphone integration, the ROCCAT Ryos Pobo is aimed at the gamer, giving up Cherry MX Switch Mechanical Keys, two USB ports and a tenkeyless design. Roccat have now bolstered their range as of recent, seeing extra features added into the mid.

This keyboard is quoted to be made as part of ROCCAT's "Future Ready philosophy", with their CEO and Founder, Rene Korte explaining in their recent press release that "when concepting Phobo, we knew we had a strong vision. Still, we brought it back to the drawing board to expand and perfect the design."

Anti-Slip mousepads are the last PC inclusion from Turtle Beach

Chris Smith | Jan 6, 2015 6:35 PM CST

Quite often overlooked, mousepads are essential to any gamers setup. Not only do they provide you with a steady surface to help keep (and build) your muscle memory as time goes by, they'll also prevent your mouse feet from wearing out quickly. As they're generally priced between $15-$40 and will last you around 18 months, there's no real excuse not to pick yourself one up.

Turtle Beach are throwing themselves into the PC market, with their last products announced being their new TRACTION and DRIFT mousepads. The TRACTION offering features a textured weave surface, an anti-slip rubber base and comes in various sizes - including Medium (270x220mm), Large (350x250mm), X-Large (450x350mm) and Wide (900x300mm). Expect this mousepad to set you back between $14.95 to $34.95 on their release later this year.

Secondly, Turtle Beach have announced their DRIFT surface. Described as using microfiber technology suitable for PC and MAC - because MAC customers apparently need to be told what they can and can't use. This mousepad has anti-fraying stitched edges and also comes in a range off sizes, including Medium (270x220mm), Large (350x250mm), X-Large (450x350mm) and Wide (900x300mm). This product range will also cost users between $14.95 to $34.95, depending on what size option you're interested in.

Turtle Beach venture further into PC gaming - offering new GRIP mice

Chris Smith | Jan 6, 2015 6:22 PM CST

In yet another announcement, Turtle Beach are furthering their charge into the PC peripheral market - offering up two new GRIP mice for different styles of gaming. We've seen plenty of companies do this before and Turtle Beach are following suit - releasing one higher graded feature packed Laser mouse and its little brother optical offering.

For some reason Turtle Beach are really about the capital letters this coming spring. We've already written about their new IMPACT keyboard range, but what good it a mechanical keyboard without a top mouse to sit at its side?

Starting off with the big brother, Turtle Beach have released information on their new GRIP 500 mouse. Providing an Avago 9800 laser sensor and Omron switches, the 500 offers various illumination settings, seven programmable buttons and the ability to create up to 50 macros with up to 100 commands each. With all five profiles having the ability to be set to various color settings, this mouse stores all of the information on its on-board memory. Set for release later this year, the mouse will set you back $69.95.

Mad Catz introduces their new G.L.I.D.E mousepad

Chris Smith | Jan 5, 2015 7:09 PM CST

CES 2015 - Mad Catz Interactive are once again providing the goods for the competitive gaming and eSports realms, putting up their new G.L.I.D.E mousepad for scrutiny.

Said to be optimized for both optical and laser mice, this surface is designed with FPS gamers in mind. By providing an extended surface size, those using low sensitivity can take refuge in the fact that they'll never slip off the end and miss their crucial headshots.

The G.L.I.D.E mousepad claims to use a new production method, seeing the contact surface being bonded directly to the silicone base and therefore creating an edgeless surface, helping reduce the all-too-common mousepad frayed edge issue. Mad Catz also claims this surface is immune to permanent curling, commenting that it is perfect to take to LAN events as the shape will remain unchanged, even when rolled and unrolled regularly.
