Fusion-io says that the new drive offers previously unheard-of levels of performance, protection, and capacity utilization from a single server. The performance for the ioDrive Duo scales linearly when multiple drives are used, allowing for up to 6 GBytes/s with just four ioDrive Duo's.
The new drive can easily sustain read operations of 1500MB/s and write operations of 1400MB/s. The ioDrive Duo also offerst RAID-1 between two ioMemory modules on the same card, offering complete redundancy on a single card.
The ioDrive Duo will be available in April and will come in sizes of 160GB, 320GB, and 640GB. In the second half of the year the company plans on releasing a 1.28TB drive as well.

Many database and system administrators are finding that SANs are too expensive and don't meet performance, protection and capacity utilization expectations," said David Flynn, CTO of Fusion-io. "This is why more and more application vendors are moving toward application-centric solid-state storage. The ioDrive Duo offers the enterprise the advantages of application-centric storage without application-specific programming.
