Dell Technologies World (DTW) will be held at The Venetian in Las Vegas from May 20-23, 2024. Dell and its partners will showcase the latest technology and AI innovations for businesses. The race to achieve the world's first petabyte-sized SSD is being headed by Samsung Electronics, and the finish line may be closer than we previously thought.

It was only in March last year that reports surfaced that Samsung Electronics was approximately a decade away from creating the first petabyte SSD, but now new research has come out that may reduce that timeline significantly. Firstly, Samsung is preparing to launch its 9th Gen V-NAND flash that features 290 layers stacked, a new global benchmark. Additionally, the manufacturer announced the existence of its 10th Gen V-NAND flash that features 430-layer stacking.

The quest to achieve a 1,000 terabyte, or 1 petabyte single SSD may still be some years away, but recently, we got a peak into the behind-the-scenes at what new technology the company is working on to make that storage goal a reality. Giwuk Kim, a Ph.D student at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), is set to present an analysis on Hafnia Ferroelectrics, and how ferroelectric properties could lead to smaller and more efficient capacitors/memory.

Corsair has just launched its latest MP700 PRO SE PCIe 5.0 SSD, setting new performance highs across the board and even winning an Editor's Choice award in our review on the Corsair MP700 PRO SE PCIe 5.0 SSD.

The new Corsair MP700 PRO SE PCIe 5.0 SSD is capable of up to 14GB/sec (14,000MB/sec) sequential read performance, and up to 12GB/sec (12,000MB/sec) of sequential write performance. Corsair has multiple SKUs of its new MP700 PRO SE SSD: the regular MP700 PRO SE, the MP700 PRO SE with Air Cooler, and MP700 PRO SE Hydro X Series.

They all feature the same 14GB/sec reads and 12GB/sec writes, with the differences between the models being the Gen5 SSD on its own, Gen5 SSD + air cooler, Gen5 SSD + custom loop water block.

Western Digital has introduced the new SanDisk Desk Drive, a portable and sleek external storage and SSD solution for creators and those who don't want to worry about running out of space. The SanDisk Desk Drive is available in 4TB and 8TB capacities, starting from $379.99 USD. The internal SSD is formatted for exFAT, and it has a USB-C interface compatible with Windows and Mac devices.

With NVMe storage, the SanDisk Desk Drive achieves read speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s, enough to house and readily access an extensive library of videos, photos, music files, and games. Western Digital says the drive is perfect for content creators and digital creators who work with large media libraries, giving them a high-capacity, fast, and flexible solution.

It can even handle 8K content. And for PC gamers, with an average install size of 36GB, the 8TB SanDisk Desk Drive can house around 200 games.
