ECS MD 100 Atom spotted as competitor to Eee Box

By: (more) | Posted: Jun 4, 2008 6:01 pm

COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2008 While specific details are extremely limited, we managed to ran into ECS' MD 100 system today.

It will go head to head against ASUS' Eee Box and MSI's Wind desktop.

As you can see from the pictures, it sports a shiny new Intel Atom sticker on the front that can only mean one thing. It will squeeze in a Mini-ITX motherboard which will be the foundations for a very affordable PC with very low power consumption.

You get four USB 2.0 ports on the back and two at the front, slim style optical drive, stereo audio out and VGA - we are talking the bare essentials but that is the market these types of systems are aimed directly at.

These types of systems are about to totally flood the market and from what we have seen from an industry that has been regarded as slow in certain markets for some time now, it probably will be a very welcome boost. Things are only just getting started quite literally and this is a product segment that definitely deserves a lot of attention.
